Présentation
À propos de moi
I live in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, no longer Brookline! Just haven't figured out how to change it in my profile.
I am a singer-songwriter and piano player and I teach music, Judaics, and Hebrew (not at the same time.)
I am transgender, and an observantly Jewish person. This combination of identities is likely to be new for some people. I love meeting people from different places, and I understand that sometimes this is at the risk of not being understood. However, if I anticipate that meeting with you might produce uncomfortable conversations about this that are not a good use of my time, I might not respond to your message.
I used to have a profile with a friend of mine when we were a couple, but have quit Couchsurfing since we stopped sharing a profile. I am trying this site again. While it's really helpful to have a cheap way to travel and connect with local people, being on this site also involves a huge degree of privilege. Aside from just the cost of traveling, going places is not possible for many people for many reasons (work, health, family, gender-related safety issues, etc.) and I do not like the way that one has to show how much adventuring they have done in order to be considered an interesting person.
I will respond to people whose profiles and/or messages indicate that they have read and understood at least most of the above. Yes, even if English is not your first language - you have a profile here, and that says a thing or two about your level of access.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
This is mostly for meeting up and exploring town. If you wanna get lunch in one of the many lovely restaurants in Jamaica Plain, or take a walk in the Arboretum, or go boating on Jamaica Pond, or go see a concert or a play, or go dancing, I'm your guy. If you want a ride to a music festival, or if you're traveling and going to festivals and looking for camping, I got you. I can't host you because I live with housemates and we're not really a communal household, we're just an assortment of people sharing a house so it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to have Couchsurfing guests at this time unfortunately, but let's do all the fun things in Boston that my local friends don't have time to do! I am also interested in networking with touring musicians so definitely drop me a line if you're a band coming through Boston.
I don't travel much because traveling is expensive but when I am lucky enough to travel, I would love to meet people where I'm going and possibly have a place to stay.
If you keep Shabbos and want to know where to go for Shabbos and things like that, feel free to get in touch. My house isn't kosher/shomer Shabbos, but I'd be happy to introduce you to the community.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
I like music that is improvised, trance-inducing, upbeat, more instrumental than vocal, and has positive intentions. Some of that has live instruments and some has electronic instruments. I also like music that is traditional. Some of my favorite books are What Is The What by Dave Eggers, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Earthmind by Paul Devereaux et al, and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. My favorite movie is La Planete Sauvage/Fantastic Planet.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
I used to play in a wildly inappropriate all-trans-all-Jewish rock band (schmekel.bandcamp.com) We were written about by the New York within two months of being a band. Those three years were pretty much the highlight of my life so far. My 10-day sailing trip in Greece was also very amazing.
