ABOUT ME

I live in Kodiak, Alaska. I have been working 15 months straight now. 7 days a week, 6pm to 6am. I hate it. In the last 450 days or so, I've had 6 off. It is a means to an end, though. I am doing this for the experience so that I can make the big bucks working summers only in Alaska and having half a year off.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm more likely to ask you a random question like "Would you let me park my car at your place while I take a bus to Mexico?" or "Hey, do you know where a good camera repair place is?" than an actual couch request. I like meeting couchsurfers, but I sleep better in a hotel room or at a campsite.

I can't host, but you can come hang out with me at work (seriously). I may let you borrow my car or give you a ride. I would definitely have a beer with you- I get off at 6 in the morning, though :(

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only surfed with two hosts, both in Hawaii. The first one was for 3 days. The second one was for 5 months. I stayed with the hospitable Hansons and worked my way through the winter. I helped them build a new house beside their house. If you ever go to the Veteran's cemetery in Hilo, it's the big green one in the northwest corner. I slept in the basement in my tent, cruised around the island on a little red 50cc scooter. I met a lot of cool couchsurfers that passed through. Greg and the family had a policy of saying yes to everybody that sent them a couch request. I can't stress how grateful I am for that experience. Mahalo, Greg!

Music: Take me to a show! I could count the live bands I've seen on one hand.

TV, Movies: Hollywood is 99% garbage, but I think we are in a golden age of television writing- Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Archer, Community... genius.

-Worked one season pumping gas at Grant Village in Yellowstone.
-One season at Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park
-Worked every chairlift at Mammoth Mountain in California. Spent a summer living in my tent, working at the Shell station. Volunteered for http://www.disabledsportseasternsierra.org/
-2 seasons at Icicle Seafoods in Seward, Alaska (Processor, Tent City Sheriff, Avtec bunkhouse manager)
-One winter working construction in Hilo, Hawaii. My boss was also my couchsurfing host (and friend).
-Worked at Telluride for about a week. Couldn't find housing so I quit and spent the rest of the winter in Moab, Utah taking pictures.
-3 seasons driving tractors on a rice farm in Maxwell, California.
-1 season at a cannery in Petersburg, Alaska (Carpenter/General Maintenance)
-1 season cooking canned salmon (thousands of cans at a time in 40 foot long steam vessels).

I know things. I would likely be interested in whatever projects you may be working on. Art, home renovation, car restoration, whatever.

I've recently chosen a real career in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Plumbing, electricity, welding, woodworking, building, these are things I enjoy being paid to do. I think my career will head in the direction of solar or wind energy, eventually.
