About Me

CURRENT MISSION

learn, live, love, and be loved.

ABOUT ME

I am an eternal optimist. I face life's challenges with a grit and smile often because people are more willing to help when the going gets tough. I believe it is a good thing to welcome friends or needy others in for a meal and good company. I believe one gets more done and enjoys life more when surrounded by good people and family rather than worrying about the little things - though details are important sometimes. I'm responsible and clean, well-kept and educated, respectful of myself and kind towards others.

PHILOSOPHY

See above - I'm an eternal optimist. I can be serious if I have to, but I prefer good humor and using my good common sense. My grandfathers are a source of inspiration and life direction, and my grandmothers give me strength when I find myself in troubling times.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I welcome folks to my current town (San Francisco, CA) and will make some time to share a good coffee or tea. If others in my house are ok - typically with advanced notice, my couch might be available to those passing through. However, I am often away, and am not around much to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've shared many a couch in my travels through Israel and elsewhere in the United States. CS.org didn't exist then for me, so it was all based on word of mouth and friend networks. I'm a bit nervous and excited at the same time to have such an organized community of people to share with now! I will update more here as I get more involved from here on...TBC

Music, Movies, and Books

oh so many to list. Such a list feels too limiting and will never capture the essence of my interests: Movies include - A few good men, Eternal Sunshine, A Beautiful mind, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Hellraiser series (most dramas, action, romantic comedies, and psychological/mystery thrillers). Books: Billy, Uncle Toms Cabin, Invisible Man, Tipping Point, The Rule of Four, Middlesex, The DaVinci Code (the movie less so), Nudge, The Pleasure of Finding Things Out. Music: my own and that of others in chorus, orchestra, or sole instrument.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one?! Skydiving, journey through Israel and the desert. Climbed Mt. Masada there. I also delivered my cousin when he was born (I think this last one is the #1 thing on my list)! Recently drove across the United States with my dad. THAT was exciting.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know algebra and some calculus (though it's been a while). I know statistics and lots about medicine and transgender and transsexual people (it's part of what I do for a living). I'm Jewish so I know a lot about Judaism, but also about religion in general. I would love to learn more about other religions and cultures. In particular, I would like to learn more about South Indian culture. I am traveling to southern India soon for a friend's wedding, and have a LOT to learn!
