¡Hola! We’re a couple from Madrid with a deep love for travel.

Active, curious, easygoing, and respectful.

Travel is not only our passion, but also our profession: we work as travel guides, produce travel podcasts (Pablo hosts two: Un gran viaje and La aventura de viajar), and write books (together we’ve published three, plus one by Pablo alone). We also ran our own travel publishing house, releasing seven titles, and for 13 years we organized Spain’s most inspiring travel event, Jornadas de los grandes viajes, where hundreds of fellow travelers gathered to hear stories from people who had embarked on extraordinary journeys.

Our greatest passion is exploring the world. In 2005, Pablo spent eight months traveling along the Silk Road; in 2010, Itziar and Pablo backpacked overland through Africa, from South Africa all the way to Morocco, on a year-long adventure. Since then, we’ve explored nearly every continent—visiting places like Colombia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Kenya, Uganda, Nepal, Myanmar, Malaysia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and many more.

We also enjoy spending time with friends, cooking and eating, learning languages, cycling (we’re urban cyclists but have also done several bikepacking trips), walking, being in nature, discovering different cultures, going to the cinema and theatre. Pablo is passionate about rock and electronic music, while Itziar loves rock and funk.

Somos una pareja de Madrid, amante de los viajes.

Activos, curiosos, tranquilos, respetuosos.

Nos dedicamos profesionalmente al mundo de los viajes: somos guías de viajes, podcasters de viajes (Pablo tiene dos: Un gran viaje y La aventura de viajar), escritores (hemos publicado juntos 3 libros, y Pablo otro), ex editores (tuvimos una editorial de libros de viajes, publicamos 7 títulos) . Y hemos organizado durante 13 años el evento de viajes más inspirador de España: las Jornadas de los grandes viajes, en el que centenares de amantes de los viajes nos juntábamos a escuchar historias de gente que había hecho viajes increíbles.

Nuestra pasión es viajar: en 2005 Pablo recorrió la Ruta de la seda durante 8 meses; en 2010 Itziar y Pablo cruzaron África desde Sudáfrica hasta Marruecos, por tierra, de mochileros durante 12 meses. Desde entonces hemos viajado por casi todos los continentes: Colombia, Costa Rica, Brasil, Kenia, Uganda, Nepal, Myanmar, Malasia, Tayikistán, Kirguistán... entre muchos otros.

Nos encanta estar con nuestros amigos, cocinar y comer, aprender idiomas, montar en bicicleta (somos ciclistas urbanos, pero también hemos hecho varios viajes en bicicleta con alforjas) pasear, la naturaleza, las culturas diferentes, el cine y el teatro, a Pablo el rock y la música electrónica, a Itziar el rock y el funk.

We love meeting people from other cultures, especially from countries very different from our own. We enjoy exchanging ideas, perspectives on life, and customs—and sharing ours with the guests we welcome into our home.

We were active on the platform from 2010 to 2016, but after moving to a new house we couldn’t host anymore, so we decided to leave it.

Now we’ve rejoined, excited to meet new people and to experience the places we visit in a more local, personal, and meaningful way.

Nos encanta conocer gente de otras culturas, de países muy remotos y diferentes a los nuestros. Intercambiar opiniones, visiones sobre la vida, costumbres y enseñar la nuestra a las personas que alojamos en nuestra casa.

Estuvimos de alta en la plataforma desde 2010 hasta 2016, pero nos cambiamos de casa y no podíamos alojar a gente, así que abandonamos la plataforma.

Nos hemos dado de alta nuevamente ahora, con ganas de conocer gente, de tener una experiencia mucho más local, cercana e íntima con los lugares que visitamos.

Music, Movies, and Books

Pablo
Music: I’m really into rock, grunge, and hardcore (bands like Tool, Soundgarden, Kyuss, Dut, Viva Belgrado, Vetusta Morla).
Movies: I enjoy action and suspense films, but really anything with a smart, unpredictable script. From The Matrix and Indiana Jones to The Departed or The Shawshank Redemption. I’m also a fan of space movies, like Gravity. Directors I tend to like include Amenábar, Sorogoyen, Cuarón, and Isabel Coixet.
Books: I especially enjoy travel writing—my favorites are The Shadow of the Sun by Ryszard Kapuściński and The Innocent Anthropologist by Nigel Barley.

Itziar
A devoted reader, I read all kinds of genres—from crime fiction to journalism, autofiction to futuristic or humorous works. I really enjoy cinema—not just the films themselves (though I prefer suspense and mystery) but also the whole experience of sitting in a theater, surrounded by sound and images. I also listen to a lot of podcasts, especially on psychology, science communication, true crime, and humor.

Pablo:
Música: Me gusta mucho el rock, grunge y hardcore (bandas como Tool, Soundgarden, Kyuss, Dut, Viva Belgrado, Vetusta Morla).
Películas favoritas: me gustan las de acción o suspense, pero cualquiera que tenga un buen guión no previsible. Desde Matrix, Indiana Jones hasta El infiltrado o Cadena perpetua. Las del espacio también me suelen gustar, como Gravity. Directores como Amenabar, Sorogoyen, Cuaron, Isabel Coixet me suelen gustar.
Y libros, me gustan los de viajes (mis favoritos Ebano de Kapuscinky o El antropólogo inocente, de Nigel Barley)

Itziar: lectora empedernida, leo de todo, desde novela negra hasta periodística, de autoficción a futurista o humor... Disfruto mucho el cine, no solo las películas (prefiero las de suspense y misterio) sino de toda la experiencia de estar en una sala acomodada en la butaca y rodeada del sonido y las imágenes. Escucho muchos podcasts, especialmente de psicología, divulgación científica, true crime y humor.

Pablo

- I’ve quit my job three times to take three sabbaticals—my career has never been my top priority!
- Hiking across the Pyrenees from end to end in 45 days.
- Cycling through the Pamirs (Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan) for two and a half months.
- Playing with my old band at the legendary Sala Caracol in Madrid.
- Dining at El Bulli, Ferran Adrià’s restaurant, back when it was considered the best in the world. That experience left a huge mark on me.

Itziar

- Traveling for a year across Africa using only public transport.
- Reinventing myself several times: I’ve worked as a consultant, travel guide, cook and cooking teacher, massage therapist, editor, and coach.

ESPAÑOL:

Pablo:
- He dejado mi trabajo 3 veces para cogerme 3 años sabáticos: ¡mi carrera profesional no es mi prioridad!
- Recorrer caminando los Pirineos, de punta a punta, durante 45 días.
- Pedalear por el Pamir (Tayikistán y Kirguistán) durante 2 meses y medio.
- Tocar con mi antiguo grupo de música en la mítica Sala Caracol (Madrid)
- Comer en el Bulli, el restaurante de Ferrán Adriá, en el momento en que era considerado el mejor restaurante del mundo. Me marcó muchísimo esa experiencia.

Itziar:
- Viajar durante un año por África en transporte público.
- Reinventarme varias veces: he trabajado de consultora, de guía de viajes, de cocinera y profesora de cocina, de masajista, de editora y de coach.

Teach, Learn, Share

We love cooking, and Itziar in particular is an excellent cook (at one point in her life she even taught cooking classes). The kitchen is a place where we truly enjoy both teaching and learning.

Nos encanta cocinar y, especialmente Itziar, es una excelente cocinera (durante una época de su vida fue profesora de cocina). Así que la cocina es algo que nos encanta enseñar y aprender.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love sharing our city and culture with the people we host, making Couchsurfing a true exchange. And of course, that always includes a homemade recipe from our local cuisine.
