About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Understanding the world. A goal that I want to reach by reading any book that gives some insights about the world that we live in, about why things are the way they are. That's why I focus now a lot more on History, although I was reading a lot of literature before that. Travelling is not a goal for me. I rather read a book about a city or a country that visit it - I get more insights that way.

ABOUT ME

I'm not a very outgoing person. It takes a little time before a person gets under my skins, but once it's there, it stays there. I want to thing of myself like the kind of person that other people can depend on. I'm the one that helps you with your luggage and other things like that.

PHILOSOPHY

„Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”

2022 update: now I just want an 8 hours sleep every night

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm only willing to host verified members. Or those that have references.

Hosting sometimes. I'm participating by reading as much as I can about the city I currently live in (Bucharest) and spread the knowledge that I have among the travels that I meet.

I will sound arrogant, but please keep in mind some things before messaging me:

1. My name is not Lulian, it's Iulian. With a capital 'i'. Who writes their name in lowercase? (You can pronounce my name as Julian.)
2. Don't randomly ask me for info about the COVID restrictions in Bucharest. Check the official sites - the site of your embassy in Romania, for example.
3. I might host you, but I'm not your vacation planner. Do your own research on what you want to visit. Texting me asking for recommendation before you even arrived says to me that you are not interested in visiting Bucharest, actually. I can give you recommendations, but first tell me what kind of places you like to visit.
4. If I reply that I'm too busy to show you around, then I'm too busy to show you around. Sending me another message will not change that. The same goes for hosting: if I can't host you, then I can't host you. Don't try to make me feel bad about it. You can't always travel for cheap.
5. I would appreciate if you can speak more than the basic English. I don't want to feel that I'm stuck with a stranger in the house with whom I can't communicate with.
6. Want me to host you? Then send a hosting request, not a private message.
7. If you have a special requirement, specify it in your hosting request: keeping your bike inside, or leaving some luggage at my place. It's no problem. I just don't want to be caught by surprise.
8. If you are in a tight place and you need more than a host, like a job, you can tell me. I always try to help people as much as I possibly can when they are in Bucharest.
9. During the weekend, I usually go out and arrive early in the morning. I always try to be as quiet as possible when I arrive back, but I might disturb you. If you don't like this kind of behavior, then it's best that you don't ask me to host you. I usually invite my guests to drinking and partying with me. This way we can come back together in the morning and everybody is happy...
10. If you are travelling with someone that things Romania is a shithole, then don't ask me to host you.
11. Don't ask for a host if you also have a friend in town that might host you, and after you confirm your stay you will go at your friend's place, in the end. Nobody wants to be second option.

=== HOUSE RULES ===

1. Shoes off after you enter the apartment.
2. I recycle, so ask me where to throw some piece of trash.
3. Try not to scratch the walls with your luggage.
4. Try not to splash water everywhere when washing your hands or exiting the shower.
5. If you break something - a glass, plate, etc. - it's ok. Just say so. So that I don't wonder latter why I have 3 blue glasses instead of 4. Now I have 2 instead of 4.

I'm actually not very strict about the rules, but I will greatly appreciate if you don't treat my house as a hostel. As simple as that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly listen to rock; old school like Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, but also new gothic metal bands from across Europe, american psychedelic and blues rock bands - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Angels, The Black Keys. I read philosophy, Russian novels, Lucian Boia (a romanian historian); I also like contemporary authors like Haruki Murakami, Kauzo Ishiguro. About movies, I'm a fan of the european cinema. Usually I watch old movies. My favorites are those from the italian neorealism movement that influenced my way of seeing the world. I also like the French cinema: Jean Renoir, Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut.

2022 update: I don't listen to rock that much anymore. Now it's mostly Lana del Rey, Michelle Gurevich, trap and hip-hop. I still haven't finished watching all the good Italian movies. Working on it.

2023 update: now I mostly read IT documentation

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When the snow was pretty big in January, I brought myself a shovel and start clearing the snow from the pavement's in Bucharest. I did this for more than 10 days. I was on the news for days with this initiative. And still now I don't think it was much of a big deal. I just finished my exams and didn't want to stay in my dorm room.

Teach, Learn, Share

I usually share food, drinks with my quests. If you want, we can listen to some of my vinyls together.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My secret recipe of mango and sweet potatoes salad.

I sometimes cook and we can share dinner over a glas of wine if you drink. If any food allergies or you don't eat meat, please say so before. I usually cook fish anyways.

Countries I’ve Visited
