About Me

My name is Josh, and I'm from Sydney but I've been lucky enough to have lived in 5 different countries and travelled to many more. I am currently living and working in Örebro, Sweden as a postdoctoral researcher.

I really enjoy meeting new people from around the world and getting to know them, whether it's while travelling or at home.

I cook very often and I like to think that I have decent cooking skills. Although I'm not strictly vegetarian, when I cook at home I usually cook exclusively vegetarian and vegan meals. I don't eat out too often, but I do consider myself a foodie and really try to seek out great food experiences that a city has to offer.

I have been involved in activist groups, mainly queer activism, refugee activism and enviro activism. In recent years I have not been as heavily involved as I used to be, but I'm very keen on getting back into it.

Since my research is in music, I do enjoy music and have an eclectic taste. I want to get back into playing music (piano and drums) and I really want to get back into writing music.

I've done a lot of solo travelling but I do also enjoy travelling with other people, whether close friends or new friends I make while travelling. I like exploring the city as well as exploring the outdoors.

I can speak English, French, Danish, Swedish, Korean, Spanish, German and Japanese all to varying degrees of proficiency - I would say I can get by in all of these languages even though my grammar mightn't very good in some of them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's such a special community to be a part of, one in which people help each other out. I love meeting people from around the world and sharing stories with and getting to know other human beings.

Interests

I majored in Linguistics and Music at university so naturally I am interested in learning new languages and music. I enjoy outdoor activities and have recently discovered the joys of mountain biking (I'm not so great at it though). I also enjoy doing gymnastics (even though I'm not fantastic at it). When travelling, I usually try to find hiking trails to walk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Denmark to go to a gymnastics and sports school (højskole). It was without a doubt the best thing I've ever done, despite breaking my shoulder.
