I am Joshua Tanida, SDSU art student and small business owner. Over the years I have grow and evolved so much. I have had many milestones and periods in life that have shaped me into the person I am today. Even though some people might not see my current life as glamour I am blessed that I as able to have the life I did. To be able to contrast extreme hardship and struggle with equally extreme happiness and love.

I have been able to meet the most interesting people on this life journey. People from all over the world from Asia, to the Middle East, to South and North America. I continue to want to learn more and more and connect with all types of people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am going on my first solo trip in Europe, I arrive in Frankfurt Germany on march 27, 2020 and depart on April 3, 2020. Im hoping to be able to meet locals and share my culture and learn about yours. We can even practice American English.

I want to see new places, meet new people, and have new experiences. I also want to create a story for others to see that the world is full of good hearted, helpful, encouraging people by documenting my stays (with the consent of the host of course).

Interests

My interests range far and wide. My favorite interest's are to create and learn new things. I love to create art with a focus on sculpture and digital and to tinker.

I built and modified my electric bicycle and have fixed multiple problems on it from wiring to part replacement.
It's the best way to get around and I can help you with advice for buying or building one! You can even take mine for a test ride!

I am also believe very strongly in social and environmental justice, I like to volunteer to clean ups and recently did a protest in San Diego in opposition to treatment of asylum seekers. I think we are all human and deserve humane treatment and respect. In community college I was part of the Associated Student Government as the Environmental, Health, and Safety Officer and tried to implement better recycling principles on campus. I am also working with students to try to create a sustainability club to promote waste reduction, re-usable items (bringing personal utensils and containers), and proper recycling.

Also while I am Couchsurfing I hope to get better at crafting stories, photography, and film. I want to show people that we shouldn't be fearful of others and make a documentary about the couch surfing experience and the people who embrace connecting with others and sharing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy movies that make you think or circumvent expectations. Some movies I really enjoy are the Matrix trilogy, Memento, Cloud Atlas, War for the planet of the apes, and many more that we can talk about.

As far as music I am a huge fan of Daft Punk, Mt. Eden, Skrillex, Deadmau5, Odesza. Basically electronic lots of electronic music. but additional I am also a fan of other genre's. The Beatles, RJD2, Eminem, and lots of funky cover artists.

Unfortunately, I lack much in book reading :(. The digital fast pace day plus my ADHD make it difficult for me to stay engaged long enough to get into reading.

Other media I also really enjoy are Podcasts, Hello Internet and the Joe Rogan Experience, and instructional Youtube video's.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I look at the span of my life, the most amazing thing I can say I have done is becoming the person I am today. In my past life I was very materialistic, fearful, and unaware. Developing major depressive disorder, insomnia, and anxiety, from years of military service pushed me to a frightening edge. What I can say from my personal growth is how much people and there energies dictate your person. I can now step into the world knowing the burdens I carry mentally are not mine alone but things we all share, and we, by sharing our experiences with others can share this weight together.

Teach, Learn, Share

Right now I am working on my student portfolio, my website, and my idea's for a vlogging channel.

I have an electric bike that I use as my main form of transportation, so if you have questions about it I am your person!

I also use a myriad adobe products (photoshop, illustrator, premier pro) so if you are a creator I would love to work on projects, idea's, and learning resources with you.

I am also wanting to get into 3-D printing, so if the something you also want to learn we can discover that together.

Whatever your interests are I'm sure we can find some common ground.
