About Me

Hi! I'm an enthusiastic, outdoorsy person working for a microscopy company as a research scientist. I have an educational background in Marine Biology, Biochemistry, and Cellular Biology and I miss the days I was SCUBA diving for my research instead of sitting at a desk!

I am an avid birdwatcher and nature photographer and love to talk almost anything science, culture, or wildlife with folks who are interested. I travel a good bit for work, but often in a way that I don't encounter new people, so I'm looking forward both to hosting and surfing to expand my circle and learn about other people's experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new and interesting people, share exciting experiences, see new areas I wouldn't otherwise visit (and hopefully see/photograph new birds!). I'd like to help people visiting Durham to have a positive experience with the town and save some money along the way, and I hope to experience the same when traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movie is probably "About Time", I've been really enjoying Tyler Childers and Madison Cunningham lately for music, and I love any book by Gene Stratton-Porter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Held hands with, and got a whole string of hickies from a Giant Pacific Octopus!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach people about the biological world around them and their relationship to nature and wildlife! I can't get enough of learning about different food cultures and deepening my knowledge of the plant and animal world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A love of nature, a great conversation on many science/biology/plant/animal related topics (and some philosophy + ethics + politics thrown in there), bird watching and nature watching recommendations, a guided nature walk full of factoids and information about what's around.

Some moderate cooking skills when the time is right ;)

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Grenada, Italy, Jamaica, Portugal

Countries I’ve Lived In
