Hello! My name is Jack Davis, and I come from a small town called Buffalo in the state of Minnesota in the USA. If you do not know about Minnesota, we are quite rural and get a lot of snow, though I have lived in the city, Minneapolis, where we have good music and bicycle scenes. I am 23 years old.

I have spent 4 years in university, though I do not have a degree yet because I chose to attend Deep Springs College, a small, experimental college where we work on a cattle ranch and farm while also going to classes, all to prepare for a "life of service to humanity." The school is isolated in the desert with no cell phone service or internet and has only 28 students, so it was certainly interesting to spend two years in such a place!

I am an anticapitalist, antiracist feminist and have been in the streets for Occupy and Black Lives Matter in the US. Basically, I'm a pretty well-read, actively involved hippie kid who loves people, new experiences, and is trying to see the world before finishing school.

I know I do not have any references yet, so if you like, I can meet up beforehand and talk before being a guest.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently on a trip to Berlin and I want to stay with some good people here. I will be here for two months total, leaving in March. I have been staying in a hostel but I want more quiet nights and more conversations outside a party setting.

Interests

I like philosophy and politics: thinking about what justice is and how we, in our historical situations, can work towards it. I'm particularly interested in the refugee situation and the roles the US and the EU have played both in creating and trying to resolve the problem. I also like thinking about our own minds, I have studied and practiced meditation quite extensively.

I like music, especially electronic music, though not so much the dance kind, more experimental stuff. I also make electronic music and have performed in the US.

I like biking and running and camping. I worked as a professional bicycle deliveryperson for a bit actually! I like to watch movies when I can.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One big part of Deep Springs College is that the students do most of the administration tasks of the school, like, we hire the teachers and read the student applications ourselves. I was elected to be the Chair of the Applications Committee, and basically ran our school's application process for a year, choosing the questions and how we judged them and everything. It was a lot of work for a student also taking classes and doing farm work!

Teach, Learn, Share

Computer music stuff. Bike repair and maintenance, also got general construction and landscaping skills from working. Would love to talk about politics and philosophy, I'm a good listener!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can clean things, fix things, or do yard work. I love working with people, I think it's one of the most important ways we connect with people. I am a very neat and organized person and would have a very low impact on a host, I keep most of my things in my backpack. I can also pay you some, like the rate of a hostel, if you like.
