Hey I'm Jack. I'd describe myself as an easy-going, down to earth, grounded, earthed, rock solid, earthy guy.

I don't really hold onto negative emotions, or become too attached to anything... be it things, stuff, possessions, people, or even myself. At least that's what I'm trying to do.

If I won the lottery, I would probably spend it all on travel, at this stage. I like to travel and experience new languages, cultures, and meet new friends along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

Recently my favourite movie was probably Birdman, but I don't watch many movies. This year I plan to watch more documentaries.

Favourite book is a tough one. The one I recently read from cover to cover in a couple sittings was xkcd's 'What If?'. I also really enjoyed reading 'The Beach' before going to Thailand. I love books but find it hard to sit down and read for long periods.

Favourite music is even harder still. I have different favourite genres depending on what I'm doing. I enjoy a good deep-house playlist while I'm driving long distances, or slack lining, or on a beach somewhere in SE Asia. I can get into almost any music except for the real heavy metal stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived for 6 months in Kyoto while I was 19/20 years old. Travelled Thailand and Cambodia solo for 2 months, worked 3 jobs for 5 months, and helped setup and pack down the Woodford Folk Festival for 1 month.

I pushed myself past breaking point, and still managed to hold it together on a work job. But I prefer not to talk about it haha.

Teach, Learn Share. Well I can teach you an interesting fact about bamboo! :D

Bamboo is a grass-like species that is usually propagated by splitting off new shoots and then clumping them in pots, before putting the clumps into the ground. Most species of bamboo go to seed every 65-120 years, after which the entire plantation will die. This results in all kinds of disaster in places around the world that depend on bamboo, because a plantation will take 5-10 years to be harvestable again. In the 70's in Japan one variety of bamboo that blossom's every 120 years went to seed, and it resulted in a large cultural change in the way they use bamboo. Things like cutlery, plates, bowls, cups, etc became plastic rather than bamboo.
