About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To sieze every opportunity to enjoy and experience life that I can.

ABOUT ME

Well, where do I start? I'm in the final year of a PhD at Oxford university and I'm a bit of a disillusioned academic but deep down I love my work really.

I try to keep a good work life balance and on the weekends I love to get outside and chill in a park.

Unsurprisingly, I love to travel whenever I can. My three biggest adventures to date have been traveling through Northern Peru way back in 2010, southeastern Europe just after my undergrad in 2014 and overlanding in East Africa last October. although I've also been to Hong Kong, Beijing and Delhi more recently.

When I'm not working or travelling I enjoy wandering around the hills near home or relaxing in the pub with friends. I also like reading and swimming (though not at the same time.) and I love to ski when I get the chance! I've also recently gotten into windsurfing although I'm currently a complete novice!
I love eating and drinking and have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with tea of which I have ~15 varieties. I also like cheese, wine, beer & whisky
I'm happiest when I'm kept busy and I don't like to stay inactive for long so please don't hesitate to contact me!

PHILOSOPHY

I love to learn and try new things and I believe that since we only have one life we should make the most of it. Having said that, I also think that it's always worthwhile to put in effort in the short term in order to reap long term rewards.

I want to make the world a better place and make people happy, especially those I love.

I care deeply about the environment and it worries me that climate change has taken a backseat in politics in recent years. I think that it's vital that we protect the world around us both for ourselves and for future generations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I often travel solo and it can get quite lonely. CS is a great way to get to know local people, make friends and learn tips about where to go in the city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm only just back after a long hiatus

Interests

I've pretty much covered this in the "All about you" section. I also play the guitar and I have some experience of archery but I'm really not very good at either.

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of films I have a pretty broad taste though I don't like horror one bit! As a sample of films I've enjoyed recently: The Artist, Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, The World's End, Hot Fuzz and A Beautiful Mind.

When it comes to books I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett and P.G Wodehouse. Apart from that again I'm pretty broad. I have a vague list of classics that I want to read but they don't really have any rhyme or reason. The last three books I read were: 1984 (George Orwell), Very Good Jeeves (P.G. Wodehouse) and the Master and Margarita (Mikhail Bulgakov).

Without meaning to sound like a broken record my tastes in music are also very broad. I like a bit of everything: rock, indie, ska, disco, rhythm and blues, jazz, classical, you name it. I'm not a fan of rap and cheesy pop though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Summer Palace in Beijing was awe-inspiring and I've never seen views like those from the Santa Cruz trail in Peru before or since.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well I could tell you all about Biochemistry if you want me to but beware, once you get me going there's no stopping me!

I also know a thing or two about tea.

There are so many things I'd like to learn from you. I'd love to learn about what life is where you're from and I really love cooking so if you can reach me a recipe then I'd be really grateful!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a great cook so maybe I could teach you a few recipes? I'll be really grateful if you can host me so there will be plenty of presents too and if there's anything I can do for you/bring you from the UK then I'd be happy to oblige!
