About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To bring comedy to the people of Ireland & UK & Belgium.
ABOUT ME
My name is Jim Coughlin, born in Ohio, raised in St. Louis and living in Los Angeles for 16 years. I love traveling and have been to maybe 9 countries and would like to significantly increase that number by visiting those I'm most interested in.
PHILOSOPHY
My favorite philosophy is Stoicism, which for my purposes would boil down to there is that which is in our control and that which is outside our control and we should focus on that which is in our control. There are many things I would change if I controlled the world, but I don't control the world, so rather than whine about other peoples choices, I make sure to vote and I am happy to show up for jury duty and i donate to causes and I volunteer for campaigns. If all this is generally boring, I believe this is our one pass through life and I am almost always happy and enjoying the moment. I am always excited about something new I'm learning about.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm hoping to couch surf and if anyone is coming to wonderful Los Angeles, I hope to be able to show some people around. My living situation would have to change before I could host surfers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My main couch surfing experience was on the couch of my friend Matt in Hoboken, NJ and later NYC. Nothing is more enjoyable than running the NYC Marathon, then climbing seven flights of stairs to sleep on a free couch. Also, he had a skylight that was right above my head, which made it difficult to sleep in the middle of the day. Now I own one of those eye covering things but I can't think of a good thing to call it.
Interests
Everything that has an entry in wikipedia. That's only a slight exaggeration. I love comedy in all of it's forms. I do genealogy, which is highly unusual for anyone under 60.

Music, Movies, and Books
The Orphanage was the best movie I've seen this year although it came out a few years ago (El Orfanato). Mainly read non fiction. I'm currently reading the autobiography of Fred Allen who was a huge radio star in the US, but didn't really transition to TV and has disappeared from memory. I like all kinds of music, but it's not something I seek out that much. Madness, ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Radiohead, The Specials, these all seem like sure things.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Watched my brother come in 3rd in a 22 mile race in New Zealand. Been inside New Grange, outside Dublin. Cave spelunking was awesome.
Teach, Learn, Share
