ABOUT ME

We are a couple of young, outgoing individuals with a passion for travel, interaction, language and culture. In 2011 we set off on our first adventure with nothing but a one way ticket to Beijing in hand. A year and a half later we returned home with a million stories to tell and with a burning lust to hit the road again.
After a longer than expected hiatus we finally escaped the toils of societies definition of normal life once more and fled the mundane in search of new experiences, albeit primarily in lands previously visited.
We returned to Asia in April 2014 and have a 6 month contract teaching English in China, commencing this September. What happens after that? We are happy to wait and see...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have been out of the couchsurfing loop for some time now but are hoping to re enter the community by sharing our experiences and learning from others.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have only surfed a handful of times and hosted only once due to living with other people. Even so, the few people we have met through CS have been a delight and in some cases become friends for life.

Interests

Travel is the obvious mutual interest we share! We are NOT however your typical Thailand backpackers in search of sun, sea, sand and the nearest booze cruise! We would sooner be sat in a grubby beer station in Myanmar, laughing and gesturing with the locals, sipping the local brew with intermittent shots of rice whiskey, whilst munching on fried crickets than raving to chart music at a full moon party any day!

We are huge fans of the underwater world and have been diving a fair bit, though not nearly enough! Wildlife, as well as the general well being of the natural world.

We love food! Trying new things is one of the primary reasons we travel.

Interactive entertainment has formed a big part of both of our lives and even though we are taking some time off, we still get a thrill out of thinking about being on stage or performing in other ways - our previous job is somewhat difficult to put into words but we are more than happy to chat about it further should we get a chance to meet!

Music, Movies, and Books

We've recently discovered that we are fed a whole lot of Hollywood tripe in the west and have overcome a fear of subtitles to discover a wonderful world of foreign film! There's always the odd exception of course and Alice is still a sucker for anything Disney/Pixar! We also love the work of Studio Ghibli and have been lucky enough to visit their museum!

Our music taste is ever evolving, from Ludovico Einaudi to Infected Mushroom with pinches of almost every genre in between! We recently discovered Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein - a brilliant Burmese vocalist!

Teach, Learn, Share

We are a little out of practice in the kitchen as we have seldom had the opportunity to cook since being away - however! We do love cooking and love sharing culinary delights both from our birthplace and places we have visited along the way.
Alice is a professional fire performer and can teach you some poi skills. Jack has basic juggling skills to share and could assist with any writing difficulties you may have.
Obviously more than willing to help any budding linguist to hone their skills in English or Spanish!
