About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get a local experience everywhere I visit

ABOUT ME

I am a student from Colorado in the United States. I am an easy going and adventurous guy who loves seeing, learning, and enjoying everything in the moment. Most of all, I love seeing the world! I hope that my travels bring me life experience that I can share with others around the world.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is that there is only so much to be learned from books and classes. Real life experience is earned by getting out into the world and living. Taking chances, meeting people, eating a lot, doing crazy things, all come together and make a person who they really are. This is what I seek through travel!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love collecting things from the places I go, mostly stories from the people I meet. Couchsurfing makes it really easy to do that because everyone I meet tells me at least one thing that blows my mind and shifts my thinking for the better.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have wanted to participate in Couchsurfing since hearing about it years ago. As I am writing this, I have had any experience in Belgium, Chile, and Spain. I have been to surfer meetups in Granada which expanded my understanding of the community and what I personally seek from my travel experiences. I have not been able to host any Couchsurfers before, but my experiences have been amazing so far and I would love to do it in the future!

Interests

I love experiencing new environments and locations. One of my favorite things is walking around a new place and taking in everything around, and really getting a feel for the place. I love to hike and be outdoors. I am very curious and interested when it comes to local food. Finally, I really like to meet people and get their views on the place that they live.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy all movies, especially kinds that make you think. Some of my favorites are In Bruges, Pan's Labyrinth, 180° South, and anything by Pixar.
My music taste changes day by day. My all-time favorite band is the Avett Brothers, and because of them, I am really into bluegrass-style music. Trampled By Turtles, Old Crow Medicine Show, etc. At the same time, I really enjoy rap and hip-hop, especially artists like Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Chiddy Bang, J.Cole, stuff like that. However I will truly listen to any kind of music and be content.
I enjoy classic literature and books with excitement and thought. My favorite book is Ender's Game, and some of my favorite authors are Michael Chabon and David Sedaris.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visited a place in Bulgaria called Buzludzha. It's this old building in the mountains where the Communist Party would hold meetings. It looks like the headquarters for a James Bond villain. I went with a few friends I had made in the hostel where I was staying. Since the government locked the place down, we kind of had to sneak in, but once we got inside we spent hours exploring, looking at the old meeting hall with its Soviet Realist mosaics, climbing up the huge 70 meter tower and carefully peeking over the edge, and just having a good time looking around a really unique building on top of an enormous mountain overlooking the land for miles around. It was amazing to me because it was a place I had heard of long before I started my trip. I had always wanted to visit it but once I made it a reality, it was almost surreal being there. That, and it just looks so cool!

Teach, Learn, Share

I play guitar and have done some experimental songwriting. Music is a passion of mine that I would love to be able to share and learn from others.
I love writing as well, I find that the exercise of writing down my experiences has helped me remember them better, share them more easily, and understand the real reasons for why I left home to see the world.
