About Me

I grew up in rural Missouri and have a pretty down-to-earth and straight-forward personality. I've lived in Boston MA since 2013 and am enjoying the city life. I enjoy the outdoors and exploring new cities, and traveling is a pretty high priority in my life right now. I work for a software company despite having a strong liberal arts background, and I love having variety in my life!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to travel by myself but am eager to make friends along the way. I have a long solo trip coming up in May (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) and would love to meet some folks along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

As with most aspects of my life, I love variety. Some of my favorite bands/musicians lately are: Agalloch, Will Hoge, Chris Stapleton, Shakey Graves, Shinedown, DevilDriver, Ghost BC, The Sword, Matchbox Twenty and Hozier - so, everything from country/bluegrass to death metal. I occasionally listen to pop/rap, but mostly only when doing housework.

Movies are a total grab bag - I don't really go to the movies all that much, and when I do I'm usually just seeing whatever my friends are bringing me along for. I enjoy going, but it's not something I actively seek out. My ultimate guilty pleasure movie is the live action Super Mario Bros flick from the early 90s.

I read a ton and try to alternate between fiction and nonfiction. I like novels, fantasy series (currently working my way through Mistborn), maritime history or exploration, and classics (lowercase c and capital C).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've ran the track at Olympia, beaten cancer (it was thyroid cancer though which is pretty wimpy, and more stories I can tell in person!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Book recommendations? I read a ton and will certainly be traveling with my Kindle. I'm a pretty good cook and would be happy to cook a meal for my hosts during my stay.
