Sobre mí

We are Jacob and Amie (Brother and sister)

Jacob:
I am a special needs teacher living in Skipton in the Yorkshire dales in (not very sunny) England! I play the saxophone (soprano) and love walking. I have been teaching for 4 years though this is my first year in special needs - I really enjoy it. I have lived in the countryside or close to it most of my life so am comfortable with long walks and the fresh air.

I have a completely clear and up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which I’m happy to share with hosts upon request. A DBS check is the UK’s version of a background check, confirming whether someone has a criminal record or any relevant history. This means I have no criminal record or history of any kind.

Amie:

Hey, I’m Amie. As well as my brother Jacob, we also have a little brother and little sister (Bobby, 5 and Vienna, 3). I also work with children so I tend to have a high energy personality! I love thrill seeking, dancing, laughing and also playing football too. I’d like to think of myself as a very genuine, caring and respectful person. This will be my first time backpacking and I’m really looking forward to making new friends, living life to its fullest and seeing what this beautiful continent has to offer!

By the way, we are NOT paying £51 to be 'verified' (it doesn't even 'verify' you, it's just a way to get more money from you). If you want us to verify ourselves, we will happily do it by video calling you, having a chat and showing you our passports.

Itinerary:
We will be staying 1 night in each city (getting there in the evening [8PM - 9PM] , sleeping, waking up EARLY [7AM], exploring the city and leaving for the next train in the early evening [5PM - 8PM]) This excludes Berlin where we will be staying 2 nights!

Please can old men stop messaging me saying I need to stay more than one night with hosts - we want to explore and not stay in the same city; this isn’t to say we won’t appreciate the host’s time because we certainly will.

Please look at our train times - If you are comfortable hosting us for the night or know someone who might in any of these cities, please contact us. We do not just want a home to sleep in but prefer to explore cities with people who know about their city (however, if you just want to provide accommodation, that is fine too)! We do have hostels/AirBnBs booked for most these places but we are able to cancel them if you can host and show us around. Prefer to be hosted by people 35 and under.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

We are on couch surfing as we are travelling across Western and a little bit of Southern Europe over the summer holidays. We have decided to use couch surfing for some of our places as we would like to meet more people on our travels; we like the idea of sharing stories, swapping tips or even just chilling over a cup of hot chocolate (or something stronger!) It’s those little connections that make travel unforgettable. Plus, we are happy to help out however we can—whether it’s cooking (or getting take out/take away), chatting or just being respectful guests who leaves things as we found them.

Música, películas y libros

Film:

Jacob:
My favourite film is Muriel's Wedding - It is about a lonely woman who desperately wants to get married but tries to get married in the wrong way. It is a bit of a RomCom and it's quite cliché but I like it nonetheless.

Amie:
Blended! I mean who can say no to a film with both Adam Sandler AND Terry Crews in (both comedy geniuses). I love the storyline and how fate can bring the most unlikely of people together!

Book:

Jacob:
My favourite book is by Garry Kilworth and is called Hunter's Moon - It is a story of foxes and woodland creatures that have to face the encroachment of humans on their land. They are anthropomorphised but they still have the natural tendencies of woodland creatures, just they have their own language and culture. I also like many books by Clive Barker such as Weaveworld and Imagica. My favourite genres are thriller/horror/fantasy. I do not really like non-fiction books and really do prefer fiction.

Amie:
Non-fiction books are more my thing, I’ve recently bought a herbal remedy book which I’m looking into. How to heal yourself naturally without pharmaceutical drugs! Very interesting how Mother Nature has a wide majority of healing properties for the human body!

Music:

Jacob:
My music taste is vast and can range from classical to rap to dancehall to metal. There are virtually no restrictions on my music taste. I do have my favourites (rap/r'n'b/neosoul) but this does not stop me enjoying other music. My favourite artists are: Erykah Badu, Sia, Ludacris, Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth and Mika among others.

Amie:
My music is most likely seen as repetitive and noisy but I like Drum and Bass: it pairs well with my quirky and vibrant personality. I am high energy so my music would certainly reflect that too. Artists I like listening to are Mandidextrous, subfocus, Window Kid and Lily Allen (more 2000s pop) but anything that has a beat that I can dance too is totally cool!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Jacob:

One series of amazing (in my eyes) things I have done is host and create some murder mystery party afternoons for myself and a bunch of my mates. I usually cook a 3-6 course afternoon meal for them to enjoy whilst we figure out the murder between the meals. The parties usually have a theme that we all stick to. Last year I hosted a Titanic theme where everyone wore clothes inspired by the fashion at the time and the courses were also named after or inspired by the titanic. The year before I hosted a WWII theme! This time around, I am hosting a tropical island theme - I am going to be a crab!
I know this isn't a valiant or extremely selfless 'amazing thing' but it is amazing that we all have a brilliant time each time my friend group meets up.

Amie:
One amazing thing that I’ve done is small, but made a big impact on my life. My friend, Gabrielle and I had one whole day of doing the most beautiful activities, smiling and laughing all the way and that day was super special to me. We deeply connected as friends and shared some amazing memories. This day involved going to a science and history museum, taking in everything it had to offer. Going go-karting (like real life Mario kart), I was crying with laughter when my friend was competing against a professional driver and she won! We got medals at the end! We went to a Pilates class (first time I’ve ever trying Pilates) which was brilliant - although my abs/core ached the next day. Eventually, we went wild camping in our local town, making a fire and toasting marshmallows for our supper snack whilst watching the sunset. This was the most wholesome, amazing day I’ve experienced.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teach:

Jacob:
I can teach you how to click your tongue really quickly!

Amie:
I enjoy football and could certainly teach you how to do a rainbow flick or an around-the-world!

Learn:

Jacob:
I would like to learn about different cultures. European culture is fascinating and I would love to know more.

Amie:
I would love to learn how to be more resourceful on the land, growing plants/veg/how to preserve food and be less wasteful would be amazing!

Share:

Jacob:
I would love to share ideas about how to solve the world's problems (a bit of politics), though if you're not into that, I can make some lovely cardamom ice cream (might take a while)!

Amie:
I have a deep love for music, so sharing music, dances and festival/concert experience would also be so interesting to listen to!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Hopefully we can share some experiences with the hosts we spend time with.

Jacob:
Though I may not have had many exotic experiences like some on here, I am a friendly person who is respectful. Maybe I could share some stories about my work or friends or even how to host a murder mystery party!

Amie:
This is my first raw experience of travelling (instead of generic family holidays). So don’t have many wild holiday stories. I can share with you genuine laughter and someone to listen whatever stories you would like to share with us!
