About Me

CURRENT MISSION

anti-anti-realism

ABOUT ME

I like philosophy, cricket, books and bridge. I also like holes in the road. I am happy to provide a bed space for impoverished travellers or get to know you a bit if you prefer. I don't walk (that pesky swimming pool floor). What else can I say? Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must pass over in silence.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is found in the parentheses.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT:
I offer a couch. We are a queer household. For us that means more than non-straight sexual practices. It is primarily about trying to create liberatory social spaces where everyone can be comfortable with all aspects of our identity without worrying that this will be too complicated for other people. Practically that means we hope to safe space for people who might not feel safe on other couches. So, if your queer, trans, disabled (there still some access issues but we can discuss), older people, families, refugees, or... we'd love to have you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

varied and positive.

Interests

drinking, shagging and poetry?
In all seriousness I think this Joycean trinity is essential to the good life. I have long admired the central christian myth of the three in one as it deftly sidesteps the problem of binary opposites and the resultant broken middle. Without poetry, drinking is pleasureless and animalistic; shagging is solipsistic. Poetry without the others is empty an meaningless, whilst shagging without drinking and vice versa is loveless.
More prosaically I like:philosophy, literature and parties.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like middle class films, Bergman, Allen, Kubrick, Moodyson... I like noisy music, Shostakovich, Beethoven, Aphex Twin, Venetian snares (I am not very musical so it has to be attention grabbing).I like long rambling narratives that lack plot, Joyce, Sterne, Cervantes, Kafka, the Bible, Barnes... Two of my favourite books, if you want titles, are 'The Book of Ebenzer le Page' by G. B. Edwards, and 'The Good Soldier Svejk' by Hasek.

I must be really sexist as I haven't listed a single woman. I like x-ray specs and Kate Atkinson so it is not all bad.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

something, I forget what.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have an anti-sceptical philosophy, in a world of eastern looking hippies I think I remain quite traditionally occidental. I like cricket. I am not sure I am very good teacher. I would love to learn economics and practical things to do with house maintenance.
