About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sharing a smile and a story with all people, places, and things

ABOUT ME

I live to laugh and be honest, to meet people and places, and share everything I can from stories, music, and knowledge to hiking, farming, and sport. I can make tasty omelettes. I love to explore every corner of our world and our mind that can be explored. This year I'm trying to write, farm, and find medicine for my father, because they are beautiful challenges and now is the time.

PHILOSOPHY

Smile with attention at the forces that be.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I feel lucky to be a part of the community that is our world, and there are so many phenomenal people and parts of that community. I try to help out where and when I can, and like many of us I'm trying to figure out where I'm needed. Most of all, I care deeply about finding meaning in a conversation, a bag of "garbage," a seed, daylight, fire, my own two hands, your own two hands, things like that. I feel strongly that every bit of energy we give and take makes a difference. Just my gut. And meeting all of you folks is downright fantastic.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to couchsurfing but not new to being a respectful, fun, clean, and contributing guest, I promise.

Interests

Listening, water, land, people, hiking, running, meditation, biking, learning, swimming, live music, teaching, reading, writing fiction and often truth as well, cooking, eating, washing dishes, singingdancingdrumming, fine films, fine wine n beautiful beer, telling my friends and family I love them, most things, really.

Music, Movies, and Books

A big thank you to The Beatles, Biggie Smalls, The Band, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Roots, Al Green, Tenacious D, Obi Asiama, Red Futon, Sylvan Esso, Galactic, Lake Street Dive, Dispatch, Dave Matthews, Norah Jones, Fleet Foxes, The Men of Last Call, John Butler, my dad, and so many others for educating my ears. Heroes include, but are not limited to, Donald Barthelme, Joyce, Borges, Nabokov, Hemingway, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Melville, Cather, Tobias Wolff, Stephanie Vaughn, Junot Diaz, Juan Rulfo, Ernesto Quinonez, Milan Kundera, Oscar Wilde, and of course Kurt Vonnegut. Marlon Brando was a genius, Daniel Day Louis aint bad neither, PT Anderson is a sorcerer, Wes Anderson is my favorite eternal child.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That's a tough one. Come back to me in a bit. Actually, this one time I was hiking out of Machtesh Ramon at sunset and this crazy regal ram and his fiercely fierce horns were perched at the mouth of the trail exiting this mammoth expanse that is our world's second largest crater. In that moment Ramses (for that must have been his name) owned the landscape, maybe the entire Negev Desert. I don't have a camera, but I asked Ramses to strike a pose. "Do something spontaneous!", I ordered the beast, and he stared at me with those "Who are you to tell Ramses what to do?" eyes, then sneezed with the pitch, grace, and surprise of a little girl. What a silly silly thing. I, of course, had to laugh very loudly in complete silence, because he was, after all, still the King of the desert. I guess that wasn't "Amazing" and I didn't "do it," but still, let's hope couchsurfing doesn't kick me off for rule breaking.
