About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I joined the couchsurfing community to broaden my horizon. I have traveled my entire life, and have enjoyed every second of it. I am looking forward to welcoming new people in my home, and sharing adventure stories during my travels.

ABOUT ME

I was raised partly in Indonesia. At the age of 9 the whole family returned back to their roots in Holland. After finishing my education I decided that I needed to see more of the world. This led me to Corsica, Grenoble, Mauritius, Ivory Coast, Singapore and eventually Kenya. This is where I met my late husband and after the birth of my two children my nomadic lifestyle had to change. Now that my two lovely kids have flown the nest, I have my freedom back! I am looking forward to see other parts of the world that I haven't yet discovered.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in the philosophy "live and let live". We are given one chance to live our life, we have one chance to see the world and the beauty is has to offer. One chance to meet new people and enjoy new places. I think that it is easy to submit to the hand we were dealt, I prefer to break free from this. I want to rediscover the adventure of travel. Share my experience with others when they choose to share my home. And hopefully learn from others when they choose to welcome me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Unfortunately I have no couchsurfing experience

Interests

I am quite an active person and enjoy being outdoors. I thoroughly enjoy hiking and cycling and recently started learning to play golf. I play bridge weekly in the winter time when the the weather does not allow outdoor activities. I love being in the company of other people and find it important to spend quality time with my friends. I am lucky to have found a group of people who also enjoy cultural experiences as apposed to sitting on the couch with a cup of tea.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy blues, jazz and classical music, unfortunately I was made to endure my children's taste in music which ranged from nursery rhymes on repeat to the lovely David Guetta this extended my music knowledge. Now I am going back to real music such as Paganini. As for reading I like the work of Wilbur Smith and have re-read many of his books. I usually go for adventure or thrillers, and am not picky as to who they are written by, as long as they keep me captivated.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sitting kilometers away from any form of civilization at the Tana river many years ago we waited patiently for a solar eclipse. As the moon crept slowly in front of the sun, the nocturnal birds started to get a rude awakening, and the day birds seemed to be quite confused by the early bed time. As they hurried to roost they started to bump into their nocturnal friends with which they usually do not cross paths. This feathered spectacle continued when the sun began to reappear. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it since!
