About Me

Hello! I'm Tara, my friend Serena and I are travelling to Europe in March! First stop: Madrid, then slowly making our way up north to Scotland!

We would love to explore the cities we stay in with any hosts/ travellers we meet during our time there. We both enjoy learning about other cultures and immersing ourselves in different walks of life.

I just turned 30, I grew up in Brisbane and have lived around the East coast of Australia, namely the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne. I love dogs, music, reading, walking, swimming, cycling and coffee! I love big adventures, nature, and meeting people whilst travelling. I hope to explore as much of this big beautiful planet as I can.

Serena is 31 and grew up in Melbourne, she has been living in Byron Bay on and off over the past 3 years and has travelled up and down the East coast. She enjoys reading widely and you can often find her doing creative writing projects and brainstorming new ideas. She likes to keep fit and eat her vegetables.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My deepest desire is to travel, but I don't just want some fancy holiday where you stay at 5 star hotels and keep to yourself. I want the nomadic lifestyle of backpacking, to meet people from all around the world, cook with them, chat with them, share travel stories, experience different cultures, make life-long friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Where do I even begin? I love a bit of everything, I mostly love old music from 50s - 90s, love a rock, jazz, and rap are my favourites, but I will honestly listen to any genre. Some of my favourite artists are Tool, Gorillaz, Paolo Nutini, Radiohead, Rodriguez, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Yaeji and Grimes.

Movies: Shawshank Redemption, In Bruges, The Boat That Rocked, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc etc. Also love a good horror/ thriller, especially of the Paranormal variety.

Books: ANYTHING fantasy, His Dark Materials, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, I loved Emily Rodda and Enid Blyton growing up.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to New York (or should a say a gigantic New York shaped pile of snow) the day after one of its biggest blizzards, I frolicked around in the snow having a splenid old time because I love snow, then I walked on a not-as-frozen-as-I-thought pool and.... Broke the ice and fell in.... Thereby receiving karma for being far too happy about a blizzard that probably ruined many a New Yorkers' day.

I have never been so cold in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I cannot think of what to put here? Advice?

Visit Lifou, an Island in New Caledonia, it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life.

Volunteer at a festival in the build crew, you have so much fun and meet so many people.

Pat every dog you meet on the street if you can it will really brighten your day.

Go Ceilidh dancing, even if you don't know how, it's fun jumping into the deep end.

Read the entirety of Deltora Quest (yes all 18 books), no matter what age you are.

Watch The Labyrinth, David Bowie looks funny and the soundtrack is awesome.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, home made dinners, drinking tea, listening to music in the evening over a glass of wine, exploring the city, having coffee at a cute little cafe, I am honestly open to anything, I am also ok if the host would prefer not to join in on activities (if they may be busy with work and things), as much as I enjoy company, I also very much enjoy exploring new places independently.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, France, French Polynesia, Jersey, Mexico, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Scotland, United States, Vanuatu
