About Me

Born and raised in East London - and proud of where I'm from.
As one of the most diverse cities in the world this has led me to love learning about tons of cultures, traditions, languages and people.
Taking friends to all the best local spots (for food, pubs and markets mostly) is one of my favourite things to do.

I optimistically created my couchsurfing profile 5 years ago, but havent had a chance to use it.
So while I've travelled around some amazing countries and been on holidays over the years, not every trip has been as much of a learning experience and opportunity to meet people as it could have been (week relaxing all inclusive in Dominican Republic without leaving the resort, I'm looking at you...) and I'm hopefully going to change that.
I'm definitely not a travel snob who's obsessed with authenticity at all costs; I like to make my own judgement on whether the very popular or cheesy attraction is fun or not, especially if it's my first time somewhere.
For example, in London I'd take someone new to all the obscure, interesting, little gem type places, but would also recommend they see Big Ben, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace etc.

Other than that I'm easygoing, considerate, know when to party and when to sleep, eat well and often, enjoy debating and exchanging ideas with people, but equally can just chill out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meet amazing people, visit fascinating places, host amazing people and show them around London - free accommodation is great of course, but who you meet and the experience you have is more important.

Interests

Passionate about volunteering - had the time to get back into it recently and been fundraising, filming for community tv, treeplanting, gardening etc. Love helping my local area, and it's great opportunity to make new friends, find out whats going on in the world, learn new skills, and get out in nature.

Massive foodie - cooking at home, cooking classes, food tours, local food history and traditions, market tours, wine tasting, beer tasting, whisky tasting, restaurant going and reviewing.

Too many interests to write about....!

Music, Movies, and Books

Won't go into specifics but like running to rock, dancing to dancehall, chilling to music in any language I don't know, raving to drum and bass, cooking to reggae, driving to UK garage or grime, making love to psytrance (joke, I don't like psytrance, unless I've gotten lost at a music festival).

Movies - comedy and horror. Both are hard to make, so when it's done well, I can appreciate it. Been watching a lot of documentaries lately too.

Books - I love reading, books, writing and storytelling.
It's a big part of my identity, I studied literature at uni and I have a long and varied book list.
Ideally I try to read 2 books at a time, 1 fiction, and 1 non-fiction for some balance as I could sit reading fiction all day long - at this moment in time I'm reading All Quiet on The Western Front and How to Survive A Plague.
I once also picked up Shantaram at a Thai second hand bookshop, and promptly threw it out of the top bunk of my hostel bed after getting to page 24 - sorry if that's your favourite book, but open to discussing over a coffee and agreeing to disagree.
