About Me

Current mission.....to hurry up and finish school! Sadly, I will be a super senior. But I am enjoying the ride and find time for travel here and there :)

About me
I come from a military family, so my travels began at a young age. When I was 7 years old, my family moved overseas to Germany. We lived there for 5 years, and while there we explored southern Germany and Northern France. We moved back to the US in 2004, and most of my travel has been to other states. Greg and I visited Mexico in 2017, and I am going to Hawaii in August 2019. Recently I began planning an extended backpacking trip through southern Europe. I’m hoping to go late spring 2020.

I am also a full time student majoring in secondary education. I want to teach history in middle school and high school.

Greg is my partner and he is also a full time student. He is majoring in chemistry, and does research at our university.

Dory is our cat. She is shy but warms up to guests quickly. She is also a Bengal.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing for many of the reasons that propelled others to join. When traveling, I like to see how people in other countries live from a personal perspective. Not from a tourist perspective. And it can be expensive and prohibitive to have a genuine cultural experience when staying in a hotel and sometimes even hostels. Or in resorts! I want to know where the locals eat and hang out, where is nice for a quiet walk, where is good for a picnic, where a good market is. I would suspect many hope for something like this in their travels too.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like a variety of genres, but my favorites are rap, hip hop, and RnB. Greg prefers classic rock, jazz, and electronica.

Movies: I am not into movies like I used to be. I like TV shows better. My favorite is Game of Thrones. I like Black Mirror, Stranger Things, The Expanse, Rick and Morty, Chernobyl, anything travel, and nature/science documentaries. Greg likes computer games better than TV or movies.

Books: I love reading books. I have two book cases full of books. Some of my favorites are, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Little Prince, the Harry Potter series, A Thousand Splendid Suns,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I published a poem and an essay.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, being that I am going to be a history teacher, I am always willing to engage in conversations about history. If a host or guest speaks another language, I would love to learn some of it. I can also help in the garden and the kitchen. I enjoy seeing the differences and similarities among us people.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The answer to this question depends on the host’s needs. Greg and I are willing to jump in and help around the kitchen, around the house, with children, on the farm, with animals, in the yard. English is our first language so I am always willing to help in any way of learning the language. I also speak some Spanish that I could share. We could share a meal or trade a book.
