About Me

Before starting in IT engineering, I've worked as a janitor, a carpenter, and as an orderly in hospitals. I'm good at camping. I love to cook. I've had certifications in wilderness emergency medicine (WEMT), EMT (urban), and US Coast Guard MPIC. I was a volunteer tactical medic with a law enforcement agency in Arizona. I play guitar, mandolin, mandola, oud, saz and a few other instruments. I have my nose in a book or two on any given day. I love conversations on pretty much any topic, especially with people who see things differently from me. I love the power, delicateness, vastness, beauty, and solitude of the natural world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Everything by Terrence Malick, Leonard Cohen, The Wailin Jennys, and Cowboy Junkies. Music from the Italian and Spanish Renaissance. Ethnic music from everywhere. The Oxford English Dictionary. Democracy in America. Everything by Primo Levi.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

How about amazingly stupid. Mountain biking in the California Coastal Range. Made the wrong choice at every opportunity and ended up overnight in a remote lake from which I was rescued by an eager troop of Explorer Scouts and some no-nonsense forest rangers sheriff's deputies. The ER doctors and nurses were unsympathetic. Stage 2 hypothermia.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada
