Hello couchsurfing! I'm James, 30 years old, and have been traveling around the world for 5 years, studying a BA in philosophy along the way. I love to have conversations about philosophy, art, music, culture, history and traveling, and really enjoy hearing other traveller's stories. I'm very easy going love to listen!

I've heard so much about the site and how people have loved being a part of the Couchsurfing community. Their experiences always sound so positive! Getting insider advice from a local about their city makes your experience of that city a lot richer!

Interests

I love music! I play the violin and guitar (and a ukelele if there's one around!) and have played in orchestras around South Africa.

Literature - I love to discover new ideas, new authors and I'm always journaling.

Surfing is my favourite sport, and I have a deep connection with the ocean having surfed for most of my life.

Art, design and architecture are fields which suit my creativity very well! Seeing great architecture around the world is one of my favourite things about traveling.

I love to read! Some of my favourite books are The Profit, A Call to Arms, The Madman, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Woa, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, anything Alan Watts or Murakami, Catch-22, Dubliners ...

The Matrix, A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and The Truman Show are movies that made large impressions on me!

I'm a sucker for Radiohead; Tame Impala and Mac Demarco are favourites too. The Beatles, The Doors and Pink Floyd also, anything musically innovative :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surfing enormous waves on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa with the view of an empty beach, covered only in forest and mountains.
