About Me

Hello internet.

The 'about me' is always intimidating to write in! But frankly, i think the idea of 'Me' changes all the time... so here is the 'about me' of today :)

Most of the time, I'm in love with life! The mystery of it, all the weird coincidences and alignments of circumstances... The 'bad' experiences too, because once we're through them we look back and see how valuable even these experiences are.

I'm goofy, and a little bit oblivious... whilst simultaneously having a soft spot for deep intelectualisations (is that a word?). I have a sweet tooth and love food! I'm more daring than I have been before in this regard and am eager to get out there and try strange, exotic foods too... maybe I'll find my new favorite meal by taking these risks.

I'm running out of inspirations for this box. Meet me in the next box and we'll see if something comes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The best memories of travel that come to my mind are usually when you're sharing something with someone. A deep conversation about culture, a big belly laugh at seeing a funny animal, a road trip with friends.

Being alone is great, and I think it's important in life, but the peak experiences have to be shared. The more people you come in to contact, the more of these moment happen. Simple!

So I want to immerse myself in wherever I am, and not be held back by my lack of knowledge! All the while having a place I can call home, and some friends waiting for me there (at least temporarily!)

Interests

I love playing drums, and fiddling with instruments, getting an interesting sound out of anything, no matter how good I am at the instrument. It's cliche, but music is an expression of life. Everyone is entitled to make something with sound, it's just like playing as a child...

I like meditating, and removing myself from the 'stuff' of the world. Part of being in the city is a busy life, with plenty of things needing to be done... That's totally fine, but there has to be time to reflect. "Am I stressed? Is it my circumstances or my attitude to them? Am I too involved in these problems"
Meditation really brings things back to earth, and makes me realise what's important... The present moment experience!!! Its all there is.

I like other stuff too :)

  • performing arts
  • yoga
  • meditation
  • video games
  • reading
  • music
  • drums
  • nature

Music, Movies, and Books

Music. Good music. Good music doesn't limit itself in to a genre. We put things in to boxes so it gives the illusion that it's all organised and we know what's going on... Sometimes I put on the radio and a song that I didn't used to like comes on... and now I like it, in this moment!

But I do prefer things with a more chilled out energy to it. I don't like a frantic pace in my day-to-day life so I don't resonate with this music.

I love any movies that require you to think and mess with your perceptions. Christopher Nolan's films are amazing with Memento and The Prestige being two of my favourites.

At the moment I'm all about books with advice on how to go through life. I love Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, it's a classic and very readable considering it was first written a long time ago.

A special mention though has to go to 'Mastery' by Robert Greene. Cliches be damned: this book changed my life in a big way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I played in an orchestra with a choir this year. We played a piece called 'The armed man' by Karl Jenkins. It was an amazing experience with very profound and emotional moments.

The story of how this came about was very random (I've never been in such a production, I can't really read music either), ask me about it!

Teach, Learn, Share

Our unhappiness isn't caused by external circumstances. It is our attitude, our relationship to the circumstances which cause this feeling.

These attitudes live in our mind, looking at the past, the future. Peace can happen when we drop in to the body, in to the moment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Music! I dabble with many instruments and I'm coming to realise that the only thing stopping anyone from being musical is the idea that "I'm not very musical". Music is easy, it's a play, it's not to impress but to express.

I'm creating an online business where I share this ethos through drum lessons. I'd love to talk, listen and teach anyone about music, as I see it happening in my life.

Meditation - Not as a practice, but an idea that you can take in to life. This is also part of my business, the idea that we should take time to investigate our experience. I would love to talk on this and maybe share some things I have found helpful. For me, this is the road to peace, and tranquility. Being comfortable in our own body, without the need to reach for any particular experience.
