Hello, my name is James, but I go by Indy. I am an Army Veteran and a Filmmaker. I have been settled in Los Angeles for over 10 years now, where I run my creative production entity, PointCloud. This year is a big one for me—I’m submitting my latest film projects (MedeKarpes) to various festivals. Travel can get costly quickly when you're hitting the circuit, so I’m looking to connect with the community to make these trips possible.

I’m often accompanied by my partner, Veronica, who may venture with me on some of these travels. We are quiet, respectful, and tidy guests. When I’m not behind a camera or a workstation, you can usually find me tinkering with vintage typewriters, drawing, writing a screenplay, catching a Kings game at Crypto.com Arena, or hanging out with my Corgi mix dog, Biscuit.

I’m looking to rediscover the "human" side of travel. After a decade in the LA film industry, it’s easy to get stuck in a bubble. I want to meet people who are passionate about their cities and share stories that you can't find in a screenplay. Plus, as an independent filmmaker, Couchsurfing helps me allocate my budget toward festival fees and production rather than standard hotels.

The Arts: Photography, drawing, painting, cinematography, and the technical "magic" of visual effects.

Analog-Digital Hybrid Tech: I’m currently retrofitting a couple of 1980s thermal typewriters (Brother EP-20 and EP-43) to use as distraction-free screenwriting tools. I love the challenge of making "obsolete" tech functional for modern creative work.

Events & Sports: While I’m not a die-hard sports fan, I do enjoy the atmosphere of a live game. You might catch me at a Kings game if I can snag a ticket, just to soak in the energy of the crowd.

The Great Outdoors: You’ll often find me hiking through the Angeles or Sequoia National Forests to clear my head and get away from the screens.

Mechanical Soul: I have a deep appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles; if it has an engine and a history, I'm interested.

Movies: I’m a Sci-Fi nut with a specific lean toward psychological thrillers and experimental films. My favorites include Shane Carruth’s Primer, Orson Welles’ F for Fake, and Christopher Nolan’s early work (from his short films to his first features). I’m a big fan of world-building in Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, and Star Wars, but I’m most inspired by films that challenge the viewer’s perception.

Entertainment News: I stay plugged into the "real" Hollywood. If you want to talk about the latest industry shifts or awards season drama, I’m always down for a debate.

Music: I am an eclectic listener, and I’m always looking for new music recommendations for the road.

Books: I’m usually reading industry how-to books on directing and screenwriting to sharpen my craft, but for fun, I dive into crime stories and "X-Files" style mysteries.

Depending on the trip, I may leave you with a watercolor painting of my adventures for your wall, or I can mail a 35mm photo from my travels to your home once the film is developed. For all hosts, I will also mail a typed letter from my typewriter, a letter of gratitude, a reflection of our trip, and a word of positivity.
