About Me

Hello :) I'm James. I am an architecture student from the Sonoran Desert, Arizona currently traveling/ studying in Europe. In every place I visit, I hope to discover a bit of its true, malt essence.

~I'll be walking the Camino de Santiago with my good friend Michelle in early-October! We are currently looking for hosts in Northern Spain as we make our way to Sarria to begin our walk.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's fascinating that couchsurfing can be a kind of cultural exchange between people of different backgrounds.

A poem of great meaning to me...

Quiet friend who has come so far,
feel how your breathing makes more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
and you the bell. As you ring,

what batters you becomes your strength.
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.

In this uncontainable night,
be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you,
say to the silent Earth: I flow.
To the rushing water, speak: I am.

-R. M. Rilke
Sonnets to Orpheus; 2, 29
