About Me

I am now in Greenville, SC, USA. I am in the process of updating my profile.

I teach English and martial arts. I taught high school literature for eight years in the USA, and I have owned and operated a martial arts school for nine years. I currently live in Greenville, SC, USA, where I teach English, aikido, and karatedo. I will move to La Paz, Bolivia, in July. I have listed my dojo website as my personal site, but I also have a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/jamie.huss. I will accept a friend request from anyone who considers offering me a couch to sleep on. :)

I study Taoism, mysticism, physics, psychology, anthropology, ancient history, and literature. I think the key to being a human being in this universe lies somewhere among those disciplines.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I am currently unable to host as of April, 2015. I will be moving to La Paz, Bolivia, in July where I hope to be able to host again. I hope to visit other places in South America over the next two years.

I have been on CouchSurfing for a while, but I have yet to take anyone up on offers for couches. I have stayed in hotels for most of my travels.

Other than literature, I study and teach aikido and karatedo. Here in Guangzhou, I teach aikido at a university club and karatedo at my own school. I also study tai chi chuan when I can, and I have a small group of colleagues to whom I am teachiing the basic forms. I have been training martial arts for almost 25 years. I like to dine on local food, I like to hike and explore, I like to go out for drinks (but I'm not a big partier, by any means).

Music, Movies & Books

I mostly like the classics of English literaure as regards fiction; I more often read nonfiction - mostly books on physics, mysticism, and psychology. I am picky about movies - I taught film criticism and have dabbled in screenplay writing for years, so I tend to be overly critical. My tastes in music are ecclectic, but selective. I like almost every genre, but only a small percentage of popular music is quality, in my opinion.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

My teacher, Sensei Suenaka. He is a true master of the martial arts and one of the greatest people I have ever met.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have studied literature, philosophy, and martial arts for over two decades. I have much to teach and much to learn.

Countries I've Visited

Bahamas, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I've Lived In
