About Me

I'm an easygoing traveller, always looking for adventure and meeting new people. I love to talk, try new foods, and party. I also enjoy chilling out at the beach, walking round cities, sitting in cafes or shisha bars reading a book.

I have travelled a lot of Asia over the past few years, and would love to see more of Europe and North Africa. I'm starting to train to be a teacher, so I am planning on taking city breaks and the occasional longer trip somewhere.

I love stories and most of my life is consumed by them: either telling, listening, reading, watching. Of course I love film, music, reading fiction, listening to nonfiction and podcasts. I like to take photos, but I am not that good at it.

I get on with most people, but I love artists and people who are good at debating.

I enjoy partying, but would rather have one great night out a month than an average time every night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing to meet new people, and get more of a local experience when I visit places.

I have hosted people in the past (when I lived in Shanghai) and loved showing them a typical expat lifestyle. I intend to host more when I move out of my parents house.

My two areas of focus when I travel: people and food. Always.

Interests

I'm a sucker for a good story, but aren't we all? Be it through reading, watching, looking or listening - I'll like it.

I am interested in different cultures, specifically East Asia, Eastern Europe and African. I love language and will try my best to mimic what I hear (sometimes this makes me look stupid though)...

I jog three times a week, and do yoga. I am about to begin kickboxing as a way to exercise, have fun and destress.

I am also interested in meditation - I have been to a couple of Vipasanna retreats - but I struggle to keep up this habit regularly.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a huge fan of anything related to coming of age and self-realisation.

My favourite music changes all the time. I will always love Pink Floyd, The Smiths and Joy Division. I am a big fan of Funk and Soul - Gwen McCrae is one of my favourite artists. I also enjoy Deep/Tech House and really enjoy Leon Vynehall, Sonny Fodera and Midland.

My favourite movies are Boyhood, Dead Poets Society, Freedom Writers, Boyz N The Hood and The Way Way Back.

My favourite books are Keep The Aspidistra Flying - George Orwell, Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman, How Not to be a Boy - Robert Webb, The Wind Up Bird Chronicle - Haruki Murikami, and Wild - Cheryl Strayed.

Podcasts I love: Joe Rogan Experience, 83 Weeks, Serial, Something to Wrestle, and Milk the Cow.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I volunteered at an English school in Hanoi during its initial opening. I met some amazing people, and got to experience Hanoi in a truer way - rather than just going to bars speaking to westerners, I was chilling with Vietnamese people, meeting their families, drinking rice wine and smiling a lot.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have an extensive knowledge of professional wrestling from the 1970s to the present :)

I also write poetry and prose.

I am an English teacher as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, questions, recommendations, a beer, a dance partner, a polaroid photo, a designated driver, an alibi.
