About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm on a mission to move from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to New York City. I've traveled the United States for the better part of a decade, now I'm looking to get settled and make a name for myself in the Big Apple.

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name's James. I'm an animal lover, a good listener, a great story-teller, a very strong friend, and I have high standards for myself and those I care about. I'm a clean, considerate individual very aware of my surroundings and willing to do whatever it takes to facilitate the happiness and success of myself and those around me.

PHILOSOPHY

I've come a long way from birth to the present day. I have a long way yet to go, as well. I ask for grace from those around me, and I intend to offer anyone in my life that same grace. I also wish to spend my time around people with a realistic impression of their goals and how to achieve them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've stayed with many Couch Surfing hosts, and loved every last one of them. I'm hoping to move to New York City, get settled, and begin hosting some great people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been hosted in most states -- before I heard about the Couch Surfing website, I just met people and asked them to let my fellow musicians and I stay the night with them. It sounds crazy, but it's true and it worked wonderfully...we met some wonderful people.

Interests

Once I'm settled in a better apartment, I would like to host Couch Surfers anytime I can. In the meantime, I must rely on those who are more settled to help me by letting me stay the night while I'm traveling / getting settled.

Music, Movies, and Books

I haven't seen a lot of movies lately, or read a lot of books. I love movies, but I've kept myself too busy lately for them. I know most of my favorite people love books, but I haven't made time in my life for those, either.

Music, though... I just heard the "Prairie Wind" album by Neil Young, and it's great. Also just checked out the latest Red Hot Chili Peppers, and they are still going strong. Been listening to Steve Earle, Allison Krauss, and Tedeschi-Trucks band lately. Will soon cleanse the palette again with my favorite fall-back, Tom Waits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I finally saw the Grand Canyon, in the summer of 2011. It was very awesome.

I have saved a couple of lives, and I feel good about that.

And while I can't always do it, I've discovered and implemented actual forgiveness several times in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach a little about music theory and a lot about guitar (as well as drum set, bass, and piano... maybe vocals, too).

I can teach how to make funny monster faces with just my hands.

I can teach a lot about good verbal communication skills, and how to be more aware of the messages we each send to each other.

I would like to learn more about how to better promote my own music.
