ABOUT ME

It seems pretty silly asking someone to describe themselves, because really we'd all have to write novels to properly answer the question. I think we're probably who we are, because of what we do, so we're probably different to different people, because nobody is ever with us all the time. But anyway, I'll stop over analysing the question and depart from the realms of philosophy so that I can get on and actually answer it!

I'd like to think I'm someone who believes in the ability of people (including myself!) to change themselves for the better and so I try to live life in a pretty positive way, according to that belief.

I seem to have spent most of my time up until now rowing and painting. Not sure how those two things ended up being such massive parts of my life, but they seem to be pretty engrained in me now!

Am on a year out at the moment, having completed a foundation course in Fine Art last year. Being a bit disillusioned about the state of things in the art world I took a gap year to reapply for art history, which is what I'll be studying next year. I have been working and doing internships for most of the year, but am taking a little time off, before I start university, to do some travelling.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only just joined couch surfing - it seems like a lot of fun and a good way to really get to grips with other cultures. So hopefully I'll be doing some surfing ( and some hosting when I have a couch free!) sometime soon!

Art, first and foremost! I used to spend loads of time painting (when I wasn't rowing) and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately since my year at art school I've had a bit of a mental block, as it all got a bit too pretentious for me and since then I've barely picked up a brush!

I like learning about art history, but I'd still like to do something creative! I'm not sure what at the moment, but something like illustration or film would be great. I've taken up 35mm photography and tried some 120 film too. I love culture, going to music festivals, the cinema and reading about film. I play the drums and love playing at gigs (when I get the chance!)

I've been rowing since I was about eight, though I've been taking some time out from it this year to have a bit of a rest! I've competed in more events than I can remember, won a few, and lost many!

But also travelling (of course), hiking and enjoying the countryside, pushing myself to the limit, history, visiting old buildings, architecture, going out with friends, running, cycling, oh, and trying desperately to fix my bicycle when the rear derailleur rips the wheel to bits. Really, as much as I can fit into life as possible...
