About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live, laugh, love, learn, leave.

ABOUT ME

I have more than once heard the sentence "Aren't you supposed to be writing an exam right now?"

I live with a bunch of women, which has taught me that some women REALLY love the smell of fresh laundry, and taking pictures with their feet in the foreground, w/e they're shooting in the background.

The healthiest people are those who really enjoy laughing at themselves.

You learn a lot more by being wrong than being right.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that life is all the things the singers say: it's what you make it, it's what happens when you're busy making plans, it's a carnival, a rock, and a highway.

But to sum it up in one Wilde quote: We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed, shown people around Toronto, met for drinks, gone camping...even had a few beers with Pumas in Prague.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's been great. Made many friends, memories and lots of laughing. Looking forward to a lot more.

Interests

History, film, books, music, sports, travel, dancing, extreme weather and experimental cooking.

I should clarify that experimental cooking is another way of saying 'only cooks as an experiment' rather than 'is so good that he can go beyond the realms of normal kitchen fare.'

The roomies say the only viable house-specific skills I bring to play are opening jars, lifting/moving boxes and such things, and my years doing massage, which is frankly exploited at times.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: L.A. Confidential, Gosford Park, Barry Lyndon, Trainspotting, Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead, Lawrence of Arabia, the Maltese Falcon and a ton of others...too many to try and do what I just tried to do.

Music: wow,...it's like asking what's your favourite mood.

But aside from my all time 60s/70s R&B/funk/soul stuff and envy of people who were there then, I love the proverbial 'lots of stuff'. Most recent playlist I created had Fitz & the Tantrums, Ray Lamontagne, Passenger, Amos Otis, the Script, Feist, Gnarls Barkley, Matt Weddle, Fur Bearing Animals, Chairlift, Aloe Blacc and similar.

Books ...all time fiction, Name of the Rose (Umberto Eco), Remains of the Day (Kazuo Ishiguro), The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy), Skin of the Lion/English Patient (Ondaatje, Canada represent!)as well as the usuals (Gatsby, Sun Also Rises, LOTR, etc.) and my particular fascination with mysteries and historical fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I camped outside, under the Northern Lights just south of Hudson's Bay in the midst of a 2 month canoe trip.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Fiji, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
