CURRENT MISSION

Figure out my life as I continue traveling through it! Always remember to smile even in the worst times.

ABOUT ME

I love learning new languages and cultures. These are what keeps me going and allows me to enjoy my life to the fullest!

PHILOSOPHY

Words can either save or kill people, so be careful of the words that you let out of your mouth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Again, not much experience yet, but I am so excited to get to know more about it!

Interests

Languages and cultures grab my attention and make my life engaging. Ever since I was born, I lived with two different cultures, the Korean culture and the American culture. Growing up, I attended four different elementary schools, two different middle schools, and two different high schools. Moving around so many times was not the easiest thing to do, but now that I reflect back, I am grateful for the opportunities that I have had in my life. As a result, l have always been fascinated by the different languages and cultures that exist in the world. My interest in languages and cultures is what keeps me going, what makes my life engaging.

There are a lot of things that I do to spend my time. To name a few: find good restaurants and enjoy the food like it is the last meal that I will ever have in my life; record myself playing the guitar and singing a song; bake banana bread; look at random funny videos and laugh by myself; play tennis; watch movies; read, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite books: Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Flies, The Hobbit, Lost Names, A Light in the Attic, Marley & Me, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc.

I love watching movies, usually action/thriller, independent films, and romantic comedies. I do not watch horror movies because I get nightmares after that!

I enjoy a wide range of music such as classical, pop, ballad, jazz, rap, etc. I also love listening to songs in different languages even though I may not understand all the lyrics. The songs that I currently have are in Korean, Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Hebrew.

I love playing various instruments such as piano, violin, and guitar. I would love to learn to play more instruments like the drum, bass guitar, and cello! I absolutely love string instruments.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I volunteer in an ESL classroom at a local elementary school, and there was once a 5-year old boy who had been in the US for just one month. His English was very limited and was always crying/wailing/throwing up due to separation anxiety. That went on for the first month or so, but as time went by, I noticed his improvement in English. It was truly amazing to witness his progress, and by the end of the semester he was the chattiest student in the classroom. How kids learn languages amazes me every time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Favorite quote from C. S. Lewis:

"We say that people are proud of being rich, or clever, or good-looking, but they are not. They are proud of being richer, or cleverer, or better-looking than others...It is the comparison that makes you proud: the pleasure of being above the rest.

...If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed."
