Hey! My name is Jaewon but my friends and family know me as Jamie. I was born in Seoul, South Korea but I grew up in New England. I am a third year University student in Connecticut, double majoring in Human Rights and Human Development and Family Studies. Currently, however, for the next 3-4 months I am studying abroad in the UK and my temporary home is situated in the center of London. In addition to taking courses, I am also interning for a NGO think-tank as a part of my abroad studies program.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I think that in order to really understand a city or a culture, you have to spend time with the people. I don't really care much for doing touristy things, but I do really enjoy good company (and good food). From my experience couchsurfing thus far, I have learned that it's the people who make a place really special. I have couchsurfed in Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo; and each time, I left with a sense of really having had understood the culture. I never left those places feeling regretful that I didn't see a major attraction, instead, they were the silly conversations, reminiscences, trips to the local market or cafe that made each city totally unique and sentimental.

兴趣

FOOD. I could spend hours reading recipe books. My philosophy on travel is that you experience a culture through your stomach. I like to spend my free time in markets or trying out new restaurants and local dives. I yelp everything.

I also sing a little and really enjoy the presence of musical people.

Running, working out, hiking, snowboarding, going to museums and galleries, cooking, singing, music in general!, attending academic lectures, human rights!

I'm not sure if I've personally done anything amazing, but something that was really spectacular to see were the Northern Lights in Tromsø!
