About Me

I'm a 22 year old Psychology student at Universidade do Minho, in Braga.

I've got dual nationality, both Portuguese and Polish (which explains my first name!), but I've lived in Portugal for all my life. I constantly visit Poland, and it's definitely one of my favorite countries on Earth.

Currently, I split most of my time between Braga, and Porto for the weekends. That is, of course, when I'm not travelling all over Europe, which is probably my favorite thing to do! The wanderlust bug bit me, and I love visiting new and different cities all over. I blame it all on low-cost airlines, to be honest!

Aside from my studies, I've got a wide variety of interests and hobbies, which include:
- Playing electric guitar and bass. I've got quite the collection of instruments, and I've been a part of three bands in the past, eventually touring around Portugal with one of them and doing studio work with the others. As a result, I spend a lot of my time listening to music, and I'll be able to discuss almost any genre.
- Playing video games. Mostly RPGs and visual novels, and almost exclusively single-player titles. What really gets me hooked is a good story that allows me to immerse in the world created in the game for a few hours.
- Reading. While I may not be an avid reader, gulping down novels by the dozen, I rarely travel without a book and they're still my go-to form of entertainment when I'm feeling more introspective and introverted.
- Craft beer. If you're into it as well, then we're definitely going to have a good time! Anything from sours to IPAs is my thing, and I love to explore the local breweries and the sweet elixirs they make in any city I get to visit.
- Specialty coffee. Just like beer, good coffee is a godsend.
- Tea. Properly brewed tea is a balm for the soul, and I'm always looking to try out new leaves, blends, and flavors.
- American Football. As an European, it's rare to find anyone else into it, but I was lucky enough to play for about a year, split between two teams in Portugal, and there's few experiences like it. It's a beautiful sport for those who appreciate it, and I'm definitely hooked. Go Carolina Panthers!
- Ice Hockey. While I only pay attention to the NHL (sorry, other leagues!) it's grown on me a lot in recent years, and I've gotten more and more invested in it as well, as it can be immensely entertaining. Go Carolina Hurricanes!
- European Football (Soccer). My first love in terms of sports, and a huge part of Portugal's sport culture. I've got an extensive knowledge of most leagues all over the world, and especially in Europe, where I try to have a team in every country, which helps keep me invested in the different leagues all over Europe. FC Porto, Leixões SC, Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lech Poznan, Arsenal, Sampdoria.
- Language learning. Being a native in Portuguese, I can somewhat understand and talk to people in French and Spanish (and, perhaps, even Italian). I've also been learning English for the longest time, and would consider myself to be as good as a native in it as well. Due to my family roots, I've made some attempts to learn Polish as well (hello, Duolingo?), and due to that I can get a pretty good grasp of things when I'm in Poland - and understand some slavic languages. The two languages I wish I could speak, but have zero understanding of, are Estonian and Japanese. The former, because I fell in love with Estonia when I visited. The latter, because it's just so delightfully exotic in my eyes, and the culture is like no other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a lovely community spread out all over the world, which I'm only beginning to realise ever since I've joined. The people on here seem to be absolutely fantastic, interesting human beings with so much to share and show others from all over the world, as hosts or as guests. In some cities, there's nothing like staying with a local to really get to know the little things, the details you would miss by yourself. There's nothing like walking tours of cities, allowing yourself to feel like a local for a few hours or days, and getting to feel the atmosphere of a city around you.

Interests

I can talk to you about really anything, from drag queens, to american football, from impressionist painters to current politics, and I hope that I can be knowledgeable enough and entertaining enough to hold up my end of a conversation in any topic. I tend to spread myself thin across so many interests, but who wouldn't when there's so many interesting things on this planet?

  • music
  • guitar
  • sports
  • american football
  • travelling
  • football
  • videogames
  • game of thrones
  • bass guitar
  • ice hockey
  • drag queens
  • makeup

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of music, it's impossible to pick out favorites. I could narrow it down by genre, as most of what I listen to is either classic rock, heavy metal and its many subgenres, and jazz. But that's something you'd have to find out by yourself!
My favorite movie of all time is still (and likely will remain to be) Dead Poets' Society, with Robin Williams. He was an acting genius, and the movie is one I keep going back to and that gets me to feel things every single time. Oh captain, my captain.
In terms of animation, I've definitely fallen in love with Makoto Shinkai's movies, particularly Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name), which as fantasy-centered as it is, can be an absolute masterpiece of human emotion.
My favorite book is Mary Gentle's "Ash", which is an absolute hidden gem of a fantasy masterpiece. Aside from that, I'm a huge fan of anything Harry Potter, as one should always be! Those books were a huge part of my formative years and I'm just as proud as ever to call myself a Hufflepuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm entirely certain that the biggest achievements in my life are still in front of me.
One life goal I've got for the next few years is to be able to go the coastal Camiño de Santiago route from my home town of Porto all the way to Santiago de Compostela by bicycle, and when I feel like the time is right that will probably be one of the trips of a lifetime!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you all about different kinds of beer, and any other hobbies that I'm into and am passionate about - does that count?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully, a personality that you will enjoy spending time with! I've got some experiences from my travels and life up until this point, and I'm sure I'll only keep on piling up more stories to share and knowledge to impart upon the people around me!
