ABOUT ME
I'm a 30 year old PhD student and passionate bird-watcher. I love outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming or biking.
I travelled a lot in the past years, learning new countries, amazing people and lots of wildlife. I also love to take photos from wherever I've been and try to find the marvellous detail to put into frame.
PHILOSOPHY
I try to follow a 'life is made of small moments like these' philosophy: Enjoy life at any moment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I had great experiences surfing on friends and colleagues (who afterwards often became true friends) couches throughout Germany. The desperate need for housing for a three month stay at Long Island got me here and I had a really great first experience via this platform. I'm really impressed by all the positive stories around and looking forward to make new experiences.
Interests
I love my work as a scientist - honestly, you don't do this for the money...
It's my passion to find out how the environment works, how species are distributed and why, and find ways how humans can best live side by side with nature in a sustainable manner.
For these reasons I really enjoy spending time outdoors and explore new areas and observe all kind of critters.
Don't think I'm a hermit! :) I also love it going out explore bars, clubs and the newest movies in theatres.

Music, Movies, and Books
MUSIC
My taste is rather broad even if my most favorite genre is EDM (and here Trance) but I also like all kinds of Rock, Metal and Hip Hop
MOVIES
Here my taste is much more narrower, restricted to light fare action with lots of CGI or goofy comedy (News are full of sad stories, so I don't need to watch depressing drama movies). But sometimes I'm also into 'serious' movies.
BOOKS
Keep it short: I don't read books...unless they deal with science or a healthy lifestyle. But I like reading newspapers and magazines. I have to read a lot of science publications, sometimes I even enjoy it :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Experiencing 10 days of entire night at Svalbard over new year while having full moon, snow storms, polar light, and depressed reindeers
Teach, Learn, Share
Birdwatching, (some) statistics, R programming, how to make sushi, how to open beer with just a blank page (or any other object). I'm sure there is some more...just find out or ask :)
Countries I’ve Visited
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United States
Countries I’ve Lived In
