Overview
About Me
Hi, I am a freelance photographer and art restoration student. I am happy to call Vienna my current home town, where I am living in a shared house with 5 people and a lot of plants.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I prefer to host independent guests that are able to spend the days by themselves. I'll always enjoy cooking dinner together or talking over the morning coffee, but I don't like to be a tourist guide :)
And if you're just reaching out for hangouts or city tours - please don't bother sending me requests for those.
When I host I am most happy to taste traditional vegetarian meals from my guest's culture. If you don't like to cook, you could make me happy by bringing me your favourite snacks or a small artisanal piece from home (but please no classic souvenirs)!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As a female (solo) traveller and couchsurfer I know the troubles of finding a safe place to stay. Most of the time it's really impossible to tell beforehand, and you end up in a strange situation.
I can and want to offer women and FLINTA-people a safe space. Due to that I will always prefer requests from female travellers, as we have to look out for each other!
Interests
I am a very curious person and have many hobbies and interests. Everything I do, I do with excitement!
I love doing creative things with my hands in general, like crafting, pottery, cooking, fermenting, I make soaps and tinctures and grow a lot of herbs and plants. I also collect herbs from nature that I can integrate in my cooking or to make tea and liqueurs. Apart of the granny-hobbies I am part of a techno collective, where we create beautifully decorated spaces for a lovely community that likes to dance to downtempo and organic techno tunes.
Coming from the heart of the Alps you could say I 'obviously' like hiking, but also swimming, yoga and riding my bike.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like all music you can dance to - so you'll likely find me dancing on a downtempo-festival, but I also like to fall into the dreamy rythms of 60s psychedelic rock or totally lose my shit in front of a huge reggae-soundsystem.
Since I used to be a lindy hop addict, I also just love the music of the swing era! Especially the women, such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A few years back I went on a big roadtrip with three friends. Starting in Vienna we drove over 8000km to the north-east of Europe and saw Kiew, Chernobyl, Minsk, St Petersburg, Santa Claus Village in Finland at the Polar Circle, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, the Curonian Spit, Gdansk and much more.
If you're interested in my pictures of this amazing adventure, have a look at my travelblog on www.janasabo.com/roadtrip
2022 I spent 6 months in Naples, Italy, for an Erasmus Semester. Napoli and the open hearted locals will always have a place in my heart from now on!
Teach, Learn, Share
What I could teach: a bit of german, photography techniques, fermentation
I'd like to learn about the people of the country I'm visiting, what the language is like or if you have a favourite recipe from your grandma you'd like to show me ;)
