Overview
About Me
I am an aspiring Chinese medical student. I am also a feminist and a queer. I work for a local LGBTQI+ advocacy group - Action Q. I am also a writer who occasionally writes for online media (mainly in Chinese though). I am also a spiritual person who is trying to practice mindfulness. My interests are broad, which include medicines, gender studies, sociology, philosophy, cultures, theology (liberation/queer mainly), religious studies, and more...
My current mission is to try to care as much as possible even though sometimes it's not easy. I also wish to self-craft an aesthetic self.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am always fascinated by the idea that there are a lot of people living lives that are completely different than mine this very moment. It would be a shame if we are only exposed to the predominant lifestyles that are mainstream in our own cultures and think that those are the only ways to live. Therefore I want to develop real bonding with different people, in the hope that we can broaden each other's imagination on how to live. I believe couchsurfing is a very effective way.
Interests
As mentioned, my interests are really broad, which include medicines, gender and sexuality studies, sociology, philosophy, cultural studies, religious studies, theology (liberation/queer mainly), spirituality, and more...
Here are some reasons why I am intrigued:
1) Medicines - as a medical students, it's a natural instinct to be intrigued by medicines, be it Western medicine, or alternative medicines.
2) Gender and sexuality studies - as a queer, feminist, and LGBTQI+ activist, gender studies allow me to contemplate on my very own existence and empower me to induce social changes
3) Sociology - it is absolutely important because it changes the way I see the world and myself in relation to it - people are always participating in systems larger than ourselves. That way we understand that social problems, like poverty, racism, gender inequality can be solved as long as we change the social systems.
4) Philosophy - it's just important, after all, it's about our very own existence. I am greatly influenced by Chinese philosophy especially Confucianism, and French philosopher Michel Foucault.
5)Religious studies/theology - it has a lot to do with my personal experience with churches. I felt that there was something precious in religions but there were also a lot of oppressions. As a result, I sought out to religious studies and liberation theology.
6) Spirituality - I now have a broader imagination on religions and spirituality. A amateur on mindfulness and Zen.
Though the above mentioned interests are rather academic, I am also physical. I love swimming and moving around. I love to walk. When I am in a new place or in my home town, I love to just get lost (not too lost though) and walk around. I feel that it's a good way to really get to know that place and the experience is kind of spiritual for me as well.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite Music - This is really hard. Because I have this intention to broaden my music horizons. It is also my conscious effort to explore and support local indie bands as a way to resist cultural hegemony. Examples include Mogwai, God is an Astronaut, Damien Rice, Leonard Cohen, and a lot other local indie bands
Favourite Movies - This is as hard. As you'd expect, I prefer independent movies and movies that have deeper meanings, be it on life, or social issues. Examples include Hotel Rwanda, Requiem For A Dream, Trainspotting, The Reader, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Amour, Detachment...
Favourite Books - This is the hardest among the three. I just love to read. When I was younger, with little allowance, I used to skip lunch to save up to buy books. I read what I am interested in, like gender studies, sociology, philosophy, medicines, so on and so forth, some literatures as well.
