About Me

philosophy:

Borders?
I have never seen one.
But I have heardc they exist in the minds of some people.

It is really hard to talk about yourself, so I decided to post some things my friends have said about me (this is old, from 2014 but I will leave it here): Jan is 19 years old and has just finished high school (now I can barely remember those days). He is a very sociable and talkative person, who doesn't have a problem making new friends, always ready for action and party. Full of energy and open-minded. He likes to travel, learn about other cultures and languages, and eat good food.

CURRENT MISSION
(2015) I could say that I am an ordinary student but it would be a lie. This year it was different. I took a year off and I was mostly working in Austria, to make my German even better and to figure out what exactly I want to do in my life. In the end it was all clear to me what I want to do, so I signed into a uni in Ljubljana and in October I will be studying Graphical and interactive communications. But hey, I have some time now so why not explore the world?

(2016) And now, when I look back, I know that the decision was right! Last summer I had an amazing time, I ended up traveling to Croatia more times (seaside, that festival), I was visiting Poland for 10 days with some friends, which was more than wonderful and had a great 3 couchsurfing weeks in England in London, Birmingham, Brighton and surrounding areas! And then the Uni began and 9 months later (no, I didn't get pregnant), I was finishes with all of my exams on time, so now I have a free summer and can travel around. This years, my plans are to visit the Ultra Europe in Split again, then to go to Budapest to Sziget and to also see the city, to get lost in Vienna and Bratislava, find the gods in Athens, see the pope from my window in Rome and explore the hidden treasures of Madrid! And then.. back to uni ofc!

(2017)
I realised that couchsurfing woke up a real passion in me to travel and meed new people. University in Ljubljana was very good, life next to the university was also fun, but there was something missing.. it was an exchange! So in the 3rd year of my studies I decided to take a bit longer trip to Germany, where I am currently studying Audiovisual Media. Working on some amazing projects, meeting so many internationals and traveling with them around all the time, to discover the surrounding places. I also hosted some couchsurfers here already, which was pretty fun, and am looking forward to do it again!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Most people like to travel, but there are many different ways you can do it. I am one of those, who lets say like the comfort of a nice cosy bed, but mostly this means a cold, empty, hotel room, when all the stories of people who stayed in it get washed away after they leave. So this is not exactly me. I would a million times rather sleep on an air mattress or a couch, in a room full of stories, and people full of experiences and insights. Its true that a guide book can tell you where the monuments of the city are, which museums you can visit and where to go and have a traditional meal, but I would like to taste the food that is really typical for the area. Not the one they make in fancy restaurants, saying its traditional but its just an empty plate, full of lies, and tourist guides can't help you with that. They are just trying to make profit, and not give you the best experience possible. But most of all, couchsurfing is for me because I love to meet new people. I am a very talkative person, who is a really good listener at the same time. I would also be really happy, if you join me on my journey, while I will discover the city where you live. But I wont be upset if you don't have time for that, we can still spend some time together in the evenings :)

Interests

As you could guess: I love to travel. But this is not the only passion I have. I like spending time time with my friends, no matter if its going on a coffee in the city, chilling at the beach, or discovering places we have never been to before. I like hiking and cycling. There is this another unusual passion I have: climbing! I was never professionally trained in it (because I started to climb when I was 16 years old), but I try to climb as much as possible. I just love the adrenaline. I would like to go on bungee jump, flying fox and skydiving. I think that an evening run is the best way to reflect on your day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I can't say what was the most amazing thing I have done, because my life is full of many little things that were special and amazing in their own way. Like travelling to Netherlands, Belgium and Paris with my friends or couchsurfing in Athens. Our host took me and Monika (my friend) on an unexpected trip to south of Peloponesis for 4 days, where we jumped off cliff faces. I also had an amazing time when I was on the Ultra festival in Split this year or son our family vacation in Paklenica (Croatia), where my brother and I went climbing up to 350m long climbing routes. Also Erasmus is one of the more amazing things I have ever been a part of! It is just full of unexpected situations and trips, really great! So if you have the time to meet me you wont regret it, you will see that I have this special skill of making something exciting, interesting and fun out of ordinary.
