About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Research a dissertation and get a burrito. In that order.

ABOUT ME

I'm an easy going and relatively quiet guy. When I'm in a conversation I tell a lot of jokes and try to look on the bright side of life, even if that simply highlights the absurdity of my circumstances.

PHILOSOPHY

Perhaps understanding the past will improve our future. I try to approach difficult situations with charity and empathy. I try not to over think things but I'm not always the best at that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sleeping mostly. I guess there's also the friendly small talk and exploring new cities, but where couch surfing is concerned I'm like a cat. My job is to sleep.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, it's mostly been filling in forms for this profile.

Interests

I am a graduate student in history most of my travel plans are tied up in researching my dissertation, which studies how people have dealt with flooding on the Connecticut River. This means that I'm traveling largely for the sake of learning local history and figuring out how it fits into the larger human story.
I also play recreational soccer, I like to cook, visit used bookstores, and ride bikes.

Music, Movies, and Books

My ring tone is a Scott Joplin tune. I mostly listen to sneaker gazing post rock or NPR. I also find the lyrics to pop songs amusing, I heard one the other day about making fondue.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I rode my bike from Boston to New Haven. I'm a licensed carriage driver. I tried to make a pie a day last January, but I had to give up after two weeks. Highlights included lemon meringue, Boston cream pie, and apple.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll share a granola recipe or a simple pie crust. I hope you like butter. I also know a lot about flooding and the history of New England.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Germany, Ireland, United States
