Books: I just recently got in to reading. It started from "Da Vinci's Code". After that I fell in love with sci-fi. I started by reading Arthur C. Clarke's "Space Odyssey" -series. Now I'm going through Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars-trilogy". After that I have H.P. Lovecraft's "Complete Fiction" waiting, and after that, many many more.
Movies: Any genre goes, as long as the movie is good.
