Sobre mí

Kia ora, fellow surfers!

My name is Jarod, and I’m a 25 year old from Nelson, New Zealand. I’m a keen traveler with a variety of interests and hobbies, currently spending a year exploring Europe to meet new people and experience different ways of life. Back home, I worked as a multimedia specialist, creating photo video and other media content for businesses, magazines, and other publications.

I’ve also spent time training to be a pilot which I plan to continue when I eventually return to New Zealand. Most of my working life since high school has been as a pharmacy (Apotek) assistant, so I’ve always enjoyed helping and connecting with people from all walks of life.

Right now, I’m exploring Europe on a Working Holiday Visa until the end of 2025. I’m all about meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and getting to know the world from a different perspective. Whether it’s sharing a conversation, swapping travel tips, or just soaking up the good vibes of a new place, I’m here for it.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

To make new friends and experience different cultures around the world.

Intereses

I love the outdoors, obviously coming from a country like New Zealand it’s something that’s just part of our culture but I love getting out and exploring and going places that I’ve never been before above anything. I’m also a keen Glider pilot, I fly both at my local club in the stunning Nelson Lakes National Park and also down in the lower parts of the South Island near Mount Cook (NZ’s tallest mountain). I’m also looking at completing my powered pilots licence at some point in the future, meaning I’ll be able to fly normal aircraft with an engine and possibly make a career out of it but gliding is both more fun and challenging so for now I’m sticking to that.

Música, películas y libros

Movies: Anything Action, Comedy or a really good Drama.

Music: 80s, 90s, U2, Coldplay, Kygo, Rufus Du Sol, and pretty much all the modern DJ beats, anything that makes you wanna dance :)

Books: I usually like to read books by people the inspire me so I can learn new things. At the moment I’m reading Chris Hadfield’s an Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Pulling 5 times the force of gravity upside down in an aircraft 10,000ft above the Southern Alps of New Zealand.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'd love to hear about your culture and share some of mine, maybe I could teach you some our traditional Maori war dance, the Haka.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Happy to help with absolutely anything a host requires; cleaning, any physical work, I've lived on a farm for 2 years before coming here so can be very handy with outdoor jobs. Also would love to provide a bed or couch to sleep on if you're visiting New Zealand :)
