Overview
About Me
I'm a really easy-going person, who can be a bit shy at times, but will open up like a broken levee fairly quickly.
I've home-schooled my daughter as a single dad until they moved away recently--to live entirely off the grid with Mom.
I have a sick sense of humor, but know when to pull in the reigns.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on a mission to do my first bit of low-fi traveling this Spring/Summer and maybe beyond. My daughters have gone off on their own adventures, so I'm left with no one to worry about but me. Since I didn't do much traveling when I was younger, I am ready for many open-source adventures now!
To begin, I am walking from Portland to Eugene! My route winds through about 160 miles of roadways, trails, railroad bridges, and ferries. I am following the Willamette River--as much as possible--camping illegally for the most part. I am not in a position to pay for motels and such, so couch surfing allows me to stay creative, meet new folks, and learn more about the places I pass through.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
-Built an organic farm on a borrowed urban acre without any previous gardening experience(I had a partner with experience, though) and no capital. In one season, we served up 16 CSA shares a week, including meat birds we raised, for 22-weeks. We also maintained 3 other growing spaces and sold at local community market.
-Spent 38 days at Occupy Portland--about half of which was with my kids. Built and represented the family camp there.
-Taught a year of college without a degree.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am learning chess and ukulele, both of which began as my youngest daughter's interests.
Just started rock hounding a few days ago.
