About Me

I'd like our species to survive as long as possible, at least until we explore our solar system more, we are (or can be) wonderful.

I've worked as a barman, a bike courier, and a teacher giving private classes (mathematics, English, Irish, piano, flute, etc). I love learning, and my current thing is computers, and free software and hardware (free as in freedom).

If you're a chess person, the board is ready here. Or if you're into bicycles, maths, piano, art, anthropology, and similar things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In the hopes that there's still a few good characters left on this blue rock.

Interests

(Western) chess, piano, jazz, saxophone, flute, bicycles, Emacs, Guix, GNU things generally, free software, decentralised networks such as the Safe Network, squash, languages, philosophy, mathematics, nature, exploration, spontaneity, reading. I read mostly books about Emacs, Unix, System Administration, Hacking, electronics with the Arduino, things like that, at the moment.

I'd a big long list here of writers but I couldn't handle the obnoxiousness of it when I looked back at it now - so I'll say instead that the most recent fellow I've been investigating is the anarchist fantasy / sf author Michael Moorcock. He's v cool!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Myself and a friend cycled around Ireland when 17 years old for 3 weeks camping, visited some Irish music festivals, stayed with friends around the place, many strange adventures were had! I was also lucky enough to get to stay with a host family in Japan for 5 months as well, one amazing thing there was getting to eat fugu, like homer on the simpsons that time he thought he'd eaten the poisonous part. It tasted pretty dull, and I didn't die, but sure it's about the experience. Oh, I once went to a full-on Polish wedding and drank vodka with the kings of vodka, it was legendary!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My thoughts and excitement! My undying curiosity about other people, places, and things

Countries I’ve Visited

Estonia, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, United States
