About Me

After living Two years in Key West I have moved on from my island paradise. I am the type of person that would not be considered a “tourist”. I currently own a travel company and you can find out all about my adventures at my website located at http://www.jaysodyssey.com

I am a simple person choosing to live life to the fullest and I am very lucky to make my living doing just that. Our mission is to test brands, locations and show people travel can be accomplished outside of the general tourist circles safely and wisely.

I am the head of the team that is based all over the world. I love travelling to a new place and then finding the local to show me the spots the tourists “don’t know about”. If we meet up in a location I may be traveling through, I will make my resources and my team available to you if you need help with your travel planning and preparation.

If the truth is to be told the greatest form of travel is the one without any plans.

I am a quiet person preferring to spend the night inside or at a quiet spot learning about you and your local community. I will not turn down a beer but I do not participate in wild partying and I like fairly mellow environments, or at the least a place to escape to privately.

I have been blessed enough to help birth a Mayan baby in a small village, stand in the heart of a beating volcano (not safe trust me!), watch the sunset over a giant lake, swim with the sea creatures, and ride the chicken buses with the locals.

I think I have lived more lifetimes in one then most will ever get the chance to do. I would be honored to share my stories with you!

By The Way, One look at my photos and you will see what I mean about living a lifetime!

PHILOSOPHY

Live life but always LIVE, its not life if we are not LIVING!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I am finishing up a very long trip. I was on assignment for 6 months in Central America and am currently living in the Cloud Forests north of Quito Ecuador. One of my travel partners is an airline that flies regularly out of Aruba back to the states. My plan is to make a stopover in Aruba before heading back to decompress. I have heard Aruba is beautiful and I just know someone on that island can share the local treasures with me!

I believe in the principles of sustainability, living simply and creating low impact living on the earth, I am content just living and being free, I love being around people. I love to share my experiences with people and encourage them to see this amazing world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I blend easily with people and make friends easily, I meet lots of fascinating people in my travels. I hope you can be one of them.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is such a huge topic, I’m a huge fan of James Patterson and also Clive Cussler, I love all types of music except RAP which can be defined as noise (IMHO), I spent many years in the broadcast radio field as a DJ so I have been exposed to almost every type of music out there.

Movies I lean towards action and adventure, not into slasher horror but love a good sci fi, If a movie makes you "think" then I probably will love it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There have been so many of these things, I don’t live what you call an "ordinary" life. I refused very early on to become a "slave to society" it has not always been easy.
If I had to pick one thing it would be skydiving over the ocean from 14000 feet, simply an out of this world experience (until your chute opens, then I can’t wait to get down and go back up again)

I just recently was able to hike down into the crater of Cerro De Negro, which is in Nicaragua , and even though I probably was not supposed to be in there, feeling the beating heart of an active volcano is something I cannot describe!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am phenomenal at fixing computers, I was in the IT world for a dozen plus years, One time I stayed with a family and after they fed me dinner I proceeded to dismantle and clean all the dust and junk out of their PC, when I left that house they had a fast PC with no issues.

I love to teach others, I am an accomplished professional photographer, it amazes me how very little one knows about taking a good picture. I love to help others improve their shots, whether it be for professional tips or just Social Media Pictures. I am a firm believer that no matter what camera you have, anyone can be a good photographer.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have traveled the world. I always have many stories to tell but most importantly I want you to tell me yours. My trip is about learning about the day to day life in a place, not necessarily the "tourist view". I hope we can meet, share a meal, or share an adventure. I hope to see you soon!
