关于我

CURRENT MISSION

To perpetually live as a student- no exceptions.

ABOUT ME

I graduated from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor- GO BLUE!- with a B.S. in Neuroscience. It's hard not to begin with that description because for the past four years of my life, most of my time has been devoted to reading countless pages of chemistry, biology, and physics, and, basically just studying with the goal of attending medical school. I just finished my first year of medical school at Tufts in Boston, and I will be entering my second in August of 2010.

When I'm not busy studying, I love to dance, drink, dine- the norm. I also really love to read the amazingly orgasmic and deliciously wonderful words of Paulo Coelho- he's definitely one of my favorite authors.

And of course like everyone who is associated with CS, I love to travel, although lately I have not had the opportunity to do it as much as I would like to-medical school interviews have sequestered me in the U.S. But I always seek a good adventure in a foreign land. It's nice to escape from the stresses of everyday life and to participate in cultural exchange.

PHILOSOPHY

Living without pleasure is not living at all. I love to indulge my senses, and I love to attain pleasure through travel, food, comfort, relaxation, and good company.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can show you around, suggest places (I'm a foodie in training), but unfortunately I cannot host anyone at the moment (I have 2 other roommates who aren't completely comfortable with the idea).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couch surfing experience nearly turned out to be my last one, but thanks to Nihan, my self-proclaimed Turkish “sister” and my first official CS host, this was indeed not the case. During my junior year of college and one year after having met a very handsome and charming Turkish guy at a fraternity gathering [I will not elaborate on the personal details of this encounter and of the rendez-vous that ensued ; )], I was intrigued and obsessed with the idea of visiting Istanbul. While most of my friends were planning to spend their Spring Break in Mexican beaches- only to return with no recollection of their trips- I was engrossed in fabricating an elaborate story to tell my overprotective Roman Catholic and traditionally Mexican mother (who has never left the North American continent) as to my reasons for wanting to make a journey to a place she could not locate on a map but could easily designate as being part of the Middle East. I told her that I would be staying with my Turkish friend’s sister, and that I had banked sufficient frequent flyer miles, which I had accrued over the years from travelling to college and back home, to get a free round-trip flight. Both were lies. Well, actually, the latter was partially a lie. I managed to get a roundtrip ticket for $400 thanks to my miles. Everything- my lies, my plans- synchronized in my favor until four days before my departure to Istanbul when I received an e-mail from my host stating that she could no longer host me because she had been in a car accident. “It’s not over until the fat lady sings,” simple, trite, but that’s all that I could tell myself. I frantically messaged countless CSers, and Nihan was the first to respond. To describe my experience and her hospitality as amazing would not do either justice. Tesekur ederim, Nihan!

音乐、电影和书籍

Movies: The Secret Garden, The Royal Tenebaums, American Beauty, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Godfather I and II (the third one was quite cheesy), Clerks, Silence of the Lambs
Books: Once Minutos, The Alchemist, Catcher in the Rye, true crime books by Anne Rule,
Plays: Cyrano de Bergerac
Music: Damien Rice, Jem, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Sarah MacLauglin, Kanye West, Tori Amos, The Roots, Incubus, Death Cab for Cutie, Mana, Gorillaz, John Legend, Jaguares, too many, no seriously. A day without music is like a day without oxygen, that's why I hold on to my IPOD.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Well, I think that one of the most adventurous things that I have done to this day(and I hope that I will be able to exceed this) is visiting a young gentleman in the Canary Islands after having met him at a club in Madrid when I was 19. Yep, kinda crazy, I know. He just had such an aura about him, and I totally fell in love with his persona. I stayed with him for five days- some of the most romantic and exciting days of my life- which were mostly spent at the beach lounging in the sand alongside my beautiful, exotic, companion. It was amazing.

教,学,和分享

Perhaps I am wrong, but I feel like people know more about Americans than Americans know about people. However, I do not think that this is always our fault, for our geographical location and boundaries play a huge influence on our lack of knowledge and accessibility to cultural exchange. I just want to learn as much as I can about the different cultures that exist throughout the world. Because my parents are Mexican, I have had the opportunity to experience and live within the Mexican culture as well as my native culture, here in the US.
