About Me
ABOUT ME
I am an adventure-seeking, fun-loving person, and I love to travel and experience new things. I have lived in Halifax, Kingston, Geneva, Dublin, and Washington DC, and am moving to Cape Town for 6 months on exchange. I can't wait to see what the city, country, and region have to offer!
PHILOSOPHY
Treat every day like it's your first. And do or do not, there is no try (I am 1000% not a Treky, but I once heard that quote, and it rings so true).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am new to couchsurfing, and won't be able to host anyone until January, but I look forward to meeting members of the CS community and seeing what it's all about.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have yet to host or surf, but know a lot of people who have, and all I hear are rave reviews. I have met couchsurfers who were staying with friends, and had a blast with all of them - such interesting people!
Interests
This could take a while... But travel is top of the list. I am also a bit of a (vegetarian) foodie, I love hiking, camping, just being outdoors and keeping active. Swimming, especially in lakes and oceans, is also up there.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am a total documentary nerd, and will watch anything in that vein. I also love darker comedies, or with twisted humor. Case in point: my favorite TV show is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
For books, I am a non-fiction enthusiast. Well-written true crime is probably my favorite, but it is difficult to come by. I am a bit of a language nerd also, so I like to read a lot.
My taste in music varies. My favorite genres are folk, ska, reggae, and old school rap. I am obsessed with a band called State Radio at the moment - take a listen!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One amazing thing that comes to mind is when I went to Tanzania in high school as part of a volunteer vacation sort of project. We drove into the Great Rift Valley, and met a community of people who have lived the same way for 2000 years (the Hadza). We spent two nights camping with them, and they showed us how to make fires using the bare minimum (it took them about 2seconds to do), climbing trees to get honey, digging up roots to eat,... It was incredible, and such a drastic contrast to how we live - as corny as it sounds, it really put things into perspective.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach - I love to cook, and I am passionate about vegetarianism (but not in an annoying way - I hope!), so that is something I can pass on. Not eating meat doesn't mean eating boring!
Learn - I would love to learn about different cultures or traditions. I have lived with people from different countries on many occasions (and went to international school), and I think it's fascinating to hear what other people's experiences have been.
Share - I have some great stories to share, and I love to make people laugh. Add some drinks to that, and we're sharing a hilarious, adventure-filled evening.
