About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Citizen of the world

ABOUT ME

I've been living in Chicago (my hometown) for the last year. Before that, I spent several years living in each of the Boston area and Berlin, Germany. I love traveling, foreign languages, and foreign cultures. Even though my years of living abroad may be behind me, I hope to keep those interests alive by interacting with interesting people from around the world and occasionally traveling myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love meeting interesting visitors from around the world and having the chance to meet locals and other travelers while I am traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had a very positive experience meeting couchsurfers and surfed others' couches for the first time last year while traveling.

Interests

I love reading, conversing, foreign languages, music, and sports/physical activity. During my free time, I like to enjoy a good beer with friends, see a movie, or read.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Any sort of non-fiction, or anything by Kafka, Hesse, or Asimov.
Movies: I am a fan of mob movies and tv shows, such as the Godfather or Goodfellas. Match Point and Midnight in Paris were also great.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1) Wadlopen in the North Sea. During low tide, you can walk across certain shallow parts of the North Sea on the Dutch coastline. In some places, there is no water at all, while in others it comes up to waist height.

2) The old Stasi prison in Berlin (Hohenschönhausen). We got a guided tour from a former inmate, who had been sent there for writing a journalistic piece about punk music in East Germany. It was stunning to hear about the psychological tactics the authorities used to break down the prisoners.

3) The parades during Holy Week in Andalusia. We were in a small city the week before Easter, and the townspeople marched for hours carrying extremely heavy floats depicting religious scenes, culminating in a charge up a steep hill at midnight.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, France, Peru, Russian Federation, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
