About Me

Recently had a heart attack but in good health considering. Not liable to have another any time soon, but still recovering.

Have travelled widely around Europe, hitch-hiking and staying in camps and squats and I know how hard that can be.
I did meet some wonderful people who helped me out, with places to stay and also with work.
Now I have a two bed flat, I can give something of that back.

I love to meet new people and I am very proud of my home land, it is a very beautiful and special place, steeped in history, myths and legends, some of which I have made up myself...

I am hoping to study for a BA (Hons) in History & Heritage for the next three years through Chester University, so that will be good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I did a lot of hitch-hiking in my younger days and I know just how difficult it can b e to find somewhere safe and dry to stay, even when you have money.

Some total strangers have helped me out many a time before now, with a place to stay, meals, work and some even became good friends for years afterwards.

So I would like to give some of that back.

Interests

I love the history of places.
Not just the human history, but also the geology, how that p[lace is made, how it came to be there, what happened to it over time to end up like it is, where it is now...

then I love the history of the influx of people and what has happened to them since they first came to that place and what is happening to them now.

I also love music and play guitar really well, I love food and cooking, art and nature... in fact it would be easier to list the few things I am not interested in such as TV and the things I don't like such as TV also again.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like guitar music of any sort, especially if I can play along with it, but any genre of any era. If it grabs my attention then I consider it good music.

Movies that make me think are always good, but anything depending on the mood, time of day, present company etc...

I read incessantly. I will read anything, but mostly classics.
I like to read plays as well as books and even if the book I am reading is rubbish, I will finish it so I can know that it didn't get better and I can avoid that author again.

I love museums and libraries, but also go to the gym whenever I can.

Healthy body = healthy mind...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have done many amazing things.

I worked on gill-netter fishing boats out of Newlyn, Cornwall, UK in the 1980s. We were fishing 150 miles out in the Atlantic in 32 foot boats. That's pretty amazing.

Other than that, I have picked grapes in the south of France, slept on top of a pyramid made from quoins on the French/Spanish border, Skippered my own trawler, been shot at, crashed a few cars, appeared in Guy Ritchie's film 'Revolver'...

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a huge store of yarns about all sorts of stuff... which I willingly share with anyone who cares to listen.

I am always ready to learn something new.

I love to meet new people, especially if they wish to visit my home. And I will share it with them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I doubt very much if I will be doing much travelling now.
This is more of a 'I host', sort of thing, I reckon...
