CURRENT MISSION

To learn from a wide variety of people and gain an international experience! I've just graduated from university studying mechatronic and biomedical engineering and want to see the world before starting my career as a technology consultant next year.

ABOUT ME

My name is Jeff and I'm hoping to explore America as a graduating celebration - five and a half years at university lends itself to a well-deserved holiday! I have only ever traveled to China for family visits and once to New Zealand (which is very close to Australia). I have all types of interests but I would consider myself a foodie first and foremost! I love food and am really excited to try food and drink from the world. I also enjoy powerlifting - regularly training and competing in some casual competitions run by the UNSW Barbell Club. As a student I was fairly active in club participation and at one stage helped to organize the well known UNSW Orientation Week (www.oweek.info).

I really look forward to visiting cities around the world and I know that the best way to do that is by meeting the people who live there.

PHILOSOPHY

Truly optimistic and find happiness by spreading happiness to others. I have been brought up being very family-orientated and feel lucky to have a great family - I have one brother and we both still live at home with mum and dad.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

This trip to the USA will be the first time using CS. I am hoping that I will find as much joy out of it as my girlfriend Cissy had in Europe. CS opens up a lot of opportunities for us - we are more easily able to find a place to stay in/around cities, but more importantly, we'll be able to find people who are just as excited about travel as we are and can share an amazing trip experience with us. I hope to expand on CS following this trip and perhaps travel the world again!

Interests

Weightlifting, Poker, Foodie!

I have a few interests that span across a few genres - in terms of Powerlifting - I'm a casual competitor and generally like to train for strength about 3 times a week. I have been doing this for 4 years now.

Poker is a little side hobby of mine - I'm not great at it but do enjoy some casual tournaments and online ring games to test my patience and calculations!

My love of food, however, is strong and ongoing! My family and extended family come from the hospitality background and raised me with an amazing array food and drink. I like trying all types of cuisines and am an advocate of fresh produce being the precursor to good food.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite movies would have to be Shawshank Redemption closely followed by Ghost!

I love 90s music - there's just something about it that can't be heard anywhere else. I have a 90s playlist on my car and had 90s music play at my 21st!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about robotic or biomedical technologies. I would like to say that I'm an expert in the field but I'm just a recent graduate so I can't help out much!

I did, however, use biomechanical knowledge gained in university to help with powerlifting concepts and would love to enrich anyone's life by helping their fitness and health goals.
